HOPING FOR THIS WEEKEND YALL

Omg me too. I’m dying over here

Fingers crossed, and hoping that it’s either during early tomorrow, or on Sunday. Because can’t be around my phone late tomorrow!

Emails and phone calls will NOT go out until the end of this month. Finalist are emailed first, then Merit Winners, then honorable mentions, and finally rejection emails. Written confirmation will be MAILED in mid-December. Nothing will be handed out this weekend. The emails from SAIC are not real emails of congrats. They just want you to apply for their college, and they are acknowledging you for participating in youngarts. I hope this helps. I know a lot of people who have really vaild info so hold tight!

How I will spend my Thanksgiving: ^:)^ :o3 :(( [-O<

@Damaras No offense, but how are you so sure that no one will be getting the phone call this weekend? I understand that all the info from the art colleges are not the actual letters, but do you know for sure that the finalist will not be notified by phone soon?

@Damaras I appreciate your input, but with all due respect; as a parent who has had many friend’s children go through the competition it’s well known that YA always calls the finalists in early November so they can sort out travel and lodgings for the first week in January to be in Miami. I cannot imagine why they would change this suddenly this year. Last year all finalists were called on Saturday November 3rd. Please do let us know about this valid info as it seems contrary to the years previous. I honestly don’t mean to come across badly, but if they need the finalist in Miami on 1/3/2015, families need more than a months notice. it’s always been early November, BUT just for finalists.

and it’s always been a phone call.

@Damaras It sounds like you represent YA. But one thing in your post confused me is: Why do you say “Finalist are emailed first, then Merit Winners, then honorable mention”? It does not make sense that Merit Winners will be noticed before Honorable Mention, and I don’t believe YA ever noticed MW before HM winners in previous years.

This information has been stated on the website, emailed to myself as a participating candidate, and has been posted online by the supernintendent. I have seen that forms were sent out in early November previous years, but it was stated specifically that this year students would be notified by email by the end of this month. I will post the link to the article that was released not too long ago. This is just information I have heard and am relaying to you all, as previous people have done.

I apologize if I came off as a know it all. I’ve just been doing a lot of research, and I’ve been reading carefully over the past couple of weeks. Hopefully this article helps. If I am wrong I sincerely apologize an hopes someone corrects me. Just sharing some info.

Also I do not speak for YA I am just another student who applied. However may of my friends have won in the past couple of years, and the rejection letters always come last while the Finalist are notified first via phone or email. This year seems to be a bit different. And from the people who have emailed YA, they have stated to everyone that we will be emailed by late November to mid-December. I also received an email from SAIC, as well as many of my friends, and have called, it does not mean anyone has won.

Every year they state that same timeline… It appears that that is the official one, however, every year they call the finalists in early November. It’s kind of necessary to have ample time.

Guys, guys, no need to freak out.
People, one thing you guys need to realize is that this isn’t life or death, just try not to obsess over it and let it absorb your passion.
I was a finalist last year in Cinematic arts, and I got my finalist call on November 3rd while I was doing my homework, and I hadn’t even thought about YoungArts since I applied a month prior. It was an amazing surprise, but if I didn’t get the call I wouldn’t have been disappointed. Because I didn’t think about it, the wait was completely stress-free.
Finalists will be called any day now, so just sit tight and keep calm. Work on some art or something.

you guys think they’ll call tomorrow?

@Adamation Thank you so much! I think that was the final kick-in-the-ass I needed to finish my scholastic drafts! I’m sure YoungArts will call soon, and if not, they have to call eventually!

Let’s talk something else to distract the stress of waiting.

I know you guys are all very passion about and talent in the category/area you applied. May I ask how much time you have spent on your area during last year? My daughter applied writing category and I believe she spent roughly at least 400 hours on writing last year. She attended summer writing camp; she is chief editor for her high school Lit magazine; she also did many hours free writing on her own.

I went to Governors school - 6 weeks of nothing but painting and sculpture. I also took AP drawing at Memphis College of Art (8 hours every Saturday last year) - I have a business and paint commissioned art work for my patrons. My business took off last year and I made about $8000. So countless hours…

@cherryli2015: my daughter goes to a performing arts HS here in NYC. she has 4 vocal classes daily and theory, sight reading, piano. she also is in the school opera this year ( she’s a junior). then she goes to manhattan school of music pre college from 9-5 on Saturdays for a full day of conservatory training. my D belongs to a teen theater company in NYC and does 2 musicals a year with them. in the summer she goes to French woods festival of the performing arts for 6 weeks, although this summer she will be there for 9 weeks. over the summer my D will be in 3-4 musical shows and take daily voice lessons. she is always singing. i feel she is perhaps might be doing a little but more than her peers with the pre college program, but like any musician it’s all about the practice, practice, practice. I think she’s rather typical for a focused, driven young person.
FINGERS CROSSED.BREAK LEGS and all that good stuff to all of you amazing young artists. remember this is but one competition. one moment in time. you are all just starting out. be brave and believe!

@cherryli2015 Since I applied for the writing discipline, I don’t know how many hours I spent writing throughout the past year collectively… but, I typically spend 2-4ish hours and churn out at least a couple thousand words per day and can spend up to a couple hours on editing throughout the night. I never really had formal training in writing until recently though, when I was accepted 6-weeks summer writing apprenticeship, and I just finished completed a six week Young Writers In Residence program throughout weekday evenings. Since I don’t go to an art/performing arts school that really offers anything extensive along the lines of creative writing, art, or creative non-fiction (let alone a school newspaper, which I have been trying super, super hard to push my school to have this year!), it’s been great practice. I’ve also been working as a entertainment reporter/reviewer on this website called The Young Folks since this summer, too. However, most of the things for my discipline I do outside of school, since my school doesn’t really offer those things, unfortunately. :-<

Best of luck to everyone!
