I just received my rejection letter for Script. I’ve been wondering this for a while, but is it harder for to be a Finalist if you’ve applied in the Script/Play category? Because I’ve seen the lists of past year winners and they’re mostly Short Story and Poetry. How does the judging work? Does anyone know?

Hey ForeverFish, did you get an email from them? I thought emails were going out on Friday. I expected them to be posting a list of winners, too.

The email said they would notify the result of waitlist people for regional program by Friday, have anyone received the email from youngarts yesterday?

Hey, we were asking the same question at the same time. Haha

Yeah, this is upsetting. I still don’t understand why I am at a disadvantage to attend over someone who lives nearby. It’s a competition within a competition. What a let down. Sounds like this just needs to be applicants within the NYC, LA, and Miami talent pool- others need not apply.

I’m guessing some people got emails but we didn’t dude. So to anyone looking at this wondering about YoungArts 2014- you can still be a winner and not experience the benefits.

No, I haven’t received any emails about the regional programs. Neither have some other winners I know. (As a matter of fact, I don’t know of anyone living outside of the regions who has been emailed.) I emailed YA last night to ask them about it, but since it’s the weekend, they may not get back to me until Monday. However, my friend, who lives in NYC, received her regional participation packet a few weeks ago, so go figure.

It does seem that winners living in the regions have priority, even though the YA email said that it’s on a “first-come, first-served” basis. I really hope that it all turns out well for us…and I’d be on the lookout for the list of winners, too.

Hey, @ForeverFish you’ve been really helpful about all of this YoungArts information. I’m glad you’ve been on here.

I guess more than anything, I’m disappointed in how they’ve handled this. I thought it was a big deal, but my hs student council could organize and communicate better than this. Hey YoungArts, if you miss your own deadline, please be courteous and email an apology. Let us know what to expect, so we can plan our lives. We have auditions, exams, and scheduling issues we are trying to work around. Though it seems like a cool opportunity to go to a regional, I’m losing my excitement. Anyone else disappointed?

As it relates to my earlier post, I’ve been contacted with what sounds like a reasonable explanation. I hope they communicate with everyone soon. Good luck to all the winners still on the wait list.

LA regional program only took 10 people, YoungArts, you must be kidding me!!!

Email received about 30 minutes ago for the NY program. It’s just a “congratulations we have space for you” email, though – the packet is coming later this week. Doesn’t say when exactly.

@dreamhuge: 10 people total, or 10 people in your discipline?

sounded like only 10 people for the region. so weird!

Yeah, I signed up for the Miami regional program from Arkansas and haven’t heard anything. I didn’t respond for a few days though so I might just have been too late. I was an HM and Merit winner last year and I thought it was much better organized then-- last year I got all of my notifications within a few days of when they were supposed to be released, and now I’ve still heard NOTHING about Script and Musical Theater. Hard time believing it’s the post office’s fault.

Oh well. I’ll still apply again next year hoping third time’s the charm for Finalist.

@emeraldEvi, they released the finalist list, but the list of attendees for the regionals was delayed a week. I hope you hear something soon because that is the worst feeling when you are in limbo. (see my previous whining, crybaby posts- lol) I have to believe they have gotten a ton of email and calls. Actually, once people find out how expensive its going to be, I think there will be some openings, so stay optimistic.

Got my spot in the Miami regional program! I agree, Hotels in Miami are extremely expensive, especially the ones close to downtown. Wouldn’t be surprise if people start dropping once they start to see just how expensive Miami is.

Nice hotels in NYC are also ridiculously expensive…I’ll probably end up staying in NJ and commuting in every day, just to save money.

I know from experience you usually have to be 21 to get a room in your name. Well, at least at a decent hotel…lol. And, you have to have a credit card. Some people will need an adult going with them to make this work. Did anyone else hear the sessions start after 3pm? If that’s true, the people flying in will be missing school, but the locals will be coming in at the end of the school day. Lucky. I’m not looking forward to all the school I will be missing, but I still think its worth it.

I thought you only had to be 18 to get a hotel room by yourself. (Not that it matters, since I’ll still be 17 in April.)

A parent is coming with me, for sure. I’ve heard that the sessions last from 3 PM-10 PM, but I’m missing a week of school anyway. As a second-semester senior, my grades will literally have stopped counting by then, so I’m not too worried about classwork, etc. I might get into some scuffles with the attendance office about final exam exemptions, though.

19 days to get my daughter’s rejection letter. Maybe YoungArts should pay first first class mail instead of sending the rejections by bulk mail.

Note to YoungArts Winners:

Poor YoungArts, they are overwhelm with RSVP’s I talk to them today, they said some ‘good’ changes are coming concerning the regional programs and we should be notified shortly of them. I hope part of the ‘good changes’ is that they cover travel and lodging expenses, that’s a long shot! Looks as if the YoungArts waiting game will continue…
