My D did not receive an email yesterday regarding her waitlist status. I was wondering if anyone else reading this thread is still waiting for a notification?
@MandomeLife I think I was applying with Photography but I also got an award for Visual Arts so I’m not entirely sure which link I clicked on for the waitlist but I think it was Photography. I think I’ll apply again next year although I’ll be in college by that point so I’m not really sure how fondly they look on people who do that although I’ll fit the age requirement. Yeah it’d be fine to keep in touch although I doubt I’ll be a finalist haha.
@followurheart That is odd. I was following YA’s twitter page as they announced that email notifications were being sent, so emails should’ve all gone out at the same time. I would email YoungArtswinners about the situation.
Just received word from Youngarts, they had an incorrect email address. Congrats to all.
I was accepted into a YoungArts Regional Program. But I’m hesitant to fly all the way across the country to attend…can anyone who has had experience with the regional programs give me some feedback about their experience???
Basically have received a “you will receive more details on applying for transportation” etc. on Dec. 28. @MandomeLife I believe there are quite a few college freshmen who become finalists – I would totally go for it again. Harder to get through as a sophomore or even junior than the other end of things. @girl1425 - though I don’t have details, I would think anything of the caliber of a week full of master class immersion, creativity and connecting to other talented peers is worth flying for free anywhere for. I wouldn’t hesitate — there are so many waitlisted, who would jump at the opportunity.
So YoungArts sent out the wait list status email this morning. “Unfortunately this year there was only space available in select disciplines and we are not able to accommodate adding any further participants to these programs.” In other words, the in-region folks got in, along with relatively few others, and those only in some disciplines. I understand this; I just think it’s rather deceptive to say “everyone is invited,” and then say, well, you can’t actually come. Is that just bitterness speaking?
I’m just updating now as I said I would when full info came. Feels like they made a lot of changes this year and now need to take stock of how to communicate all of these new procedures so they are a lot clearer to all applicants. And, @letterhead - agreed - it is not just bitterness speaking --when you read the initial material it definitely seems like all will be invited to a regional – that’s what I presumed --when that is not at all the case, and it does seem to come down to the luck of happening to be at the computer at the precise moment that the announcements were sent, along with geographical luck - in my daughter’s category, somewhat surprisingly there were very few from the NYC area - other categories had many more.
So, as far as the regional weeks go, for people who aren’t within the immediate area, there is free hotel and I think free air as well, though we don’t need the air. Staying in the hotel is mandatory, in fact, as the programs last from early morning until around 9pm each night. Basically everything is included - all meals, programs, etc.
I/my daughter feel(s) exceedingly lucky to have her able to participate. Best of luck to all next year - go for it again.
@Rampions, I really am happy for your daughter! Naturally I’m disappointed for my own child, but I completely understand that what YoungArts is trying to do is fantastic, and we just didn’t luck out this time around. Hoping she will have an opportunity to participate in one of their Alumni events. Next year she’ll be in college and having a much-more-than-five-day GREAT experience. Best luck on your daughter’s (overall, not just YA) journey!
@Grovee since the YoungArts 2017 season has opened, I have a question for you about winner notification. If a finalist misses the call, will he/she still receive an emailed offer? Or, was the only kind of notification that you received through a phone call? Just thought I’d ask since you were a finalist. Congratulations!
