I wanted to congratulate all the fine young men and women who participated in yesterday’s Undergraduate Research Conference & Creative Activity Conference.

In case you don’t know about this event here is an explanation:
The Undergraduate Research & Creative Activity Conference is a premier annual event at The University of Alabama that provides undergraduates an opportunity to highlight their research or creative activity.
In addition to bringing attention to the excellent work of University students, the Conference allows students to gain experience presenting, compete for cash prizes and form relationships with their faculty mentors and fellow Conference presenters.

You can like their page on Facebook and follow them for next year and you will also see some photos and a 1minute video from this year. It is a large event that is well attended and showcases the brilliant work that the participants are doing.

Thanks for posting. I liked the group on FB. I “think” I see my D’s eyeball in one of the photos! Hopefully more photos will be uploaded onto the FB site. Heaven knows that my D will never take photos.

^^^Yes, I know what you mean, they are too busy participating, that’s why. It is great to hear that your daughter was there and that she presented her research.

Note to others:
Anyone who has applied to an REU anywhere, but wasn’t accepted and still doesn’t yet have summer plans:

Send weekly emails to the REU director indicating that if they have a cancellation, you are available. The first year, my older son was late in getting his REU apps out and didn’t get accepted, so every week he sent an email to the director. (polite email, just mentioned continued interest and availability…short and sweet.)

Lo and behold, a week before the REU was to begin (which was the morning after his most recent email), he got a phone call from the director saying that they had a cancellation and could he take the spot. He did and he still says that was the best one ever.

The deal is this…when a director gets a last minute cancellation, he/she doesn’t want to take the time to rifle thru apps and then calling a bunch of folks to find a replacement. If they know that they can make ONE phone call and fill the spot, they will.

I love this thread!
I sent M2CK’s excellent suggestion to my sophomore S earlier this week, because he did not get an REU at UA this summer, which was bummer enough…but he apparently doesn’t need it: he has an aero-engineering INTERNSHIP AT BOEING instead! He just got the offer today. Over the moon. This is so huge for him, and also speaks volumes for the aero program at UA, to be considered. WELL DONE, SON! And, THANK YOU, UA, for all of the fantastic opportunities he is having at your school, in order that he is prepared sufficiently for this internship! <beaming></beaming>

Congrats. Jealous. Still wondering why my soph S with 4.0 GPA in EE cannot even get a response to his dozens of internship applications. Actually he just got his first reply yesterday, which led to an interview next week with a big defense contractor back home in NY. Fingers crossed. He would kill for a Boeing internship. Maybe aeroson can put in a good word (they’re probably friends anyway) :)

Congrats aeromom! DD received her Upper Division nursing promotion letter this past weekend. The average GPA for this summer’s promotion group is 4.03! Congrats to everyone who made the cut!

I don’t post here much but read just about everything and am so excited for my son I just have to brag! He graduates Saturday and we have been pretty discouraged by the lack of entry level aerospace engineering opportunities. Yesterday he got an offer from Lockheed Martin in California for what is pretty much his ideal starting job! We have been jumping for joy since we found out last night!
