Your ED Application Is In - What Are You Going To Do Now?

Haha how do you study for AP physics? That's like studying for lunch or gym

How someone studies for a math class: review your notes, do extra problems...
Make sure the formulas are in my calculator (which is allowed on the AP and therefore in my class :D)...

bestwhit: no WAY
somni: did some practice problems, gave up after 15 minutes, read all the king's men, fell asleep 3 times while reading it, and actually managed to do decently on the physics test.

I can't study for math because at least Physics is somewhat interesting, while math is not.
Calc 3 is the worst class I've ever taken, lol.

No way to what, ChandlerBing? The formulas in calculator bit?

I have perhaps the most annoying AP physics C teacher on the planet. In the last 10 days of school, we've taken 5 tests, and gone over ZERO of them. I had a solid B in the class.

I hate rotation motion. I wanna go back to AP Physics B, fluids, and easy mechanics problems.

Only one from my school applying to Cornell.

Yeah, bestwhit, the calculator thing... last year in BC my teacher didn't even let us USE a calculator for ANY test... it was ridiculous
she purposefully didn't give us calculator-based probs

Ahhh I'm taking AP Physics B since my school doesn't offer C, but it's considered the hardest class in my school because the teacher is really tough (though I do love newton's second law problems)

So yeah, Calc 3 sucks because my teacher can barely speak English and can't articulate complete thoughts... she literally points at the board and says "this is this... and that is that. do you understand how do 1+1? so there you get answer!"
LITERALLY

About 1/2 my class is applying to Cornell ED, haha

Haha, my calc III/ Lin. Alg teacher didn't speak English well either.. which wasn't good considering his illegible handwriting. I guess its a popular trait among University math teachers

Yeah I guess... her handwriting is actually legible though.
I can't wait until I never have to take math again!

You mean high school?

just a random question..but is it better to apply ED for Cornell or RD? i'm a junior and my sat score is in the 2000 range but i'm pulling it up in the 2100+ range as well..i have a 3.8 gpa with various ECs..not alot though..but few that have really influenced me alot..would it be better off for me to apply ED or RD? what if i get rejected in ED? i wont be able to apply again =[

desi_chick: better chance of acceptance in ED. For Cornell overall (not the individual colleges' rates), the ED acceptance rate is ~37% and it's like ~19-21% RD.

I'm in AP Physics B too, ChandlerBing. You should see if you can use your calculator because I (and everyone else) would be failing so hard without that lovely option.

Well, in AP Physics B we can use scientific calculators (since it would be impossible without them...), I was just talking about AP Calc BC being really hard because we'd have to do EVERY calculation out by hand on every test, which wasted time and therefore led to a lot of people not finishing the tests.
I actually like AP Physics B!
What I'm not liking is that Cornell doesn't seem to want to receive my stuff.

I have a feeling that Cornell only has like two to three people in its admission office. I am not having a good impression of the whole situation, and of Cornell, at this moment.

Yeah I like AP Physics B too. I would have dropped it long ago if I didn't... I'm already taking AP Bio this year too so I seriously don't need an extra science.

I'm not really having these problems with Cornell (I think) but it's kind of annoying me too, because it's not fair that you guys did everything on time and they're being slow.

Ap Physics B sucks!
I'm in that class and our teacher teaches nothing! I manage to have an A in that class though ,thank god, but that's only because I study like crazy the day before the test. It sucks though because half of the questions on his tests are conceptual, and Physics does not come to me conceptually! It makes no sense to me.

I have AP Chem this year too, and it is much easier to understand.

A lot of Cornell's offices are understaffed....just wait until you have to work with financial aid (if that applies to you).

Besides..it does take time for materials to be uploaded into the system..especially if any component of your application was mailed in. The material is sent to the processing center where it is physically scanned into the computer system and transmitted to the admissions office at your selected college.

A message from the admissions website:

Due to the large volume of application materials we are receiving, there may be a 1-2 week delay between the time your materials arrive in our office and when they are entered into our system. You should check your online application status account for daily updates on what we have received and processed. If you have applied for early decision or spring transfer admission, and are missing any materials, you will be notified in mid-November and given time to submit them. Please do not resend materials that you have already submitted. Thank you for your patience.

I agree with Shifu, I'm not impressed with Cornell right now.
And maybe they could hire a couple more temporary people just for the admissions season to process materials?

^^There is a hiring freeze for many departments

If any of you are considering medical school....use this as a practice for necessary patience. Some schools take 3 weeks to process your materials and you can wait a month or two for an interview invite and another month or two for a final decision.

Why are you guys in such a hurry? They can get your stuff and read it between now and December 15th and you still won't know their decision until they release it. If they lose something then it's not your fault and you just send another copy. I'm sure all big schools take a couple weeks to process all the apps. You're just one in 30,000.

I actually am considering medical school, and I'm being patient. The only thing that's worrying me is the prospect of not getting reviewed.
I have a feeling med school admissions will be even more stressful than this...
