Your experience at a bsmd(accelerated med school) program

I have been accepted to a accelerated med school program, and I want to know what it'll actually be like.

If you or someone you closely know (a close friend, sibling, daughter/son) is going through or has gone through an accelerated med school program, please share your or that person's experience.

I need answers badly.

Also talk about what kind of program you went to (6,7, or 8 year), and where it was located.

Your experience will vary greatly depending on which program you have been admitted to. Experiences with one program may have little to no relevance to a student in another program. Generally speaking these programs are a little faster paced with somewhat higher workload, especially in undergraduate years.

So, which program?

My D is in 4 + 4 combined bs/md. She was accepted to accelerated one, but wanted to have regular college experience. She is very happy with her choice. She did everything that she has planned at college and more. She will be senior next year and knows a lot of very desparate college junior pre-meds who will go to ANY Medical school that will take them. She is happy not to feel such a push/stress. Her program reguires MCAT (she could have chosen the one w/o MCAT), but score is average and she feels confident that she can get it. Her program also allow to apply out and still retain your spot. She will do it if her MCAT score is reasonably high. Her bs/md allow her great freedom, she has 2 minors in addition to very challenging major, she is in sorority, having job and interning in Med. Research Lab and has volunteered. Did not have to take any summer classes and will have light schedule her senior year that she had to fill with some filler classes.

miamiDAP, thanks for the info. im going to be in a 3 + 4 program, hopefully that goes well.

I am in a six year BSMD program. I happen to love it. I went in with enough AP credits that I take between 15-16 credits per semester (which by the way is a lot lower than what my friends in a 4 year undergraduate program take per semester). I did join the fraternity and also had season tickets for football games which I went to most of the time. I am just about finishing up my first year in college. But then again, I am absolutely positive that I want to go to Medical School which I think is what makes the difference.

This is a great thread! Thanks for starting it! Many of us have to choose from the following list… I didn’t get in all, … I got in 3… , but I know couple of friends who got in few and we all need to decide before May 1st. My parents and I have spent hours and can’t reach to a conclusion. I know a friend who is changing his mind every hour!

Pleeeease, share your experience… good AND not-so-good…

does anyone regret choosing an accelerated program? or not choosing the right one?
