The Nordstrom website says ELF is not sold at Nordstrom. I’m confused–please clarify. Thanks!

Google around and you will see comments about ELF not being sold at Nordstrom and that this is a hoax. You can buy EFL make up for $1 though.

So what’s the secret to snagging these great deals on clearance clothing? I’m someone who never buys anything at full retail price, but my eyes glaze over when I see rack after rack of chaos. I just don’t have the patience or know where to begin to try to pull an outfit together. Your suggestions?

Well we’ll see if the ELF stuff is any good - glad I didn’t buy much.

this isn’t my good deal of the day but my parents just bought themselves a 46 inch tv. it was regular 2299, on sale for 1699, and my mom had an extra coupon for an extra 15 percent off… so they wound up getting it for almost half price. they said they were out stimulating the economy. they also bought some sort of stand to set it on.

My good buy: H/H base layers in discontinued colors, 40% off. Yay, my patience paid off! And a NorthFace X-country ski jacket at Nordy’s Rack. The big question is: who has X-country skis on sale?

The thing about clearance sales is partly luck & timing and partly patience (at least that has been the case for me). When I go to Nordstrom’s Rack, I rarely can find anything. At Ross, I invariably find something cute for my D (she’s pretty easy to predict & her size (XS or S) is often pretty easy to find. When I have patience & time & I’m clothes shopping, I can sometimes only find things in D’s size & sometimes only in my size. Once in a while, I find things in H’s or S’s size. Sometimes you can engage the salesclerk in conversation about when the items are scheduled to be marked down & how much lower the items will be (especially if it’s near their sale or markdown day). I prefer to shop when I’m unrushed & ask if they can set it aside for the sale day (gives me more time to think about it & remember to bring all my coupons for the purchase).

The trick is to shop when you have time & patience and don’t urgently NEED the item (rare times I pay full retail price is when it’s for a special occasion & I NEED the item). If the item is a decent/low price & there is only one in the correct size, I’ll buy it anyway (like Costco, which often doesn’t have much in my size).

Those racks of clearance stuff can be daunting.

What I sometimes do is just picture in my mind a couple of colors I’m looking for - or color in general, since it seems that much of what’s on the winter clearance is tans, browns, greys, blacks. So if I’m thinking "red, pinks, or greens " in my mind, then that’s all I"m skimming the racks for.

That helps a bit cause it’s easier to pick out colors that stand out.

Barnes and Noble is selling games and other stuff at 75% off. With your B&N card, you can get another 10% off, and any coupons can apply too. I just bought a bunch of neat games and puzzles for birthday gifts for less than 10% of its original cost. ESPN trivia, NFL Monopoly, business type games, cards, educational sets, all beautifully packaged, originally priced $20-80. My gift cache for the year. I have two birthdays this month, and one in April and they are really going to do the job.

I’m not seeing the big discounted sale on B and N - can you provide a link or guidance how to find the stuff???

In store. I went to our local B&N and there were tables with leftover Christmas stuff, mainly games, puzzles, some other stuff (Mario Battali cook ware). All green dotted for 75% off. I am wrapping some stuff right now. Bought my brother and SIL who are tennis buffs a tennis tournament game, my football fans some football games. I printed some on line coupons and by the time the discounts were placed, I was paying less than 10% on the goods.

Cpt, thanks for the above info. I sent the info to my daughter and she replied she order a lot of stuff from there. Not what I want to hear “a lot of stuff” but it’s her money.

Whoa about that Nordstrom stuff. Take a look at Snopes regarding this. ELF is not a Nordstrom store. It is cheap makeup considered pretty good but not Nordstrom related. It is a rumor about the Nordstrom connection. Still, good prices on some of the stuff there.

Go to retailmenot.com or couponcabin or dealcatcher for great coupon codes and printable coupons. Also note that Eddie Bauer is having a 70% off sale Borders is 40% one item today and Coldwater Creek (my very favorite clothes source) has a 30% coupon code. Also for free one night videos check out reddoor coupon codes and visit reddoor video shops. Hulu for great tv and movies for free. If you visit the above coupon places, you’ll find some great deals. Always google for coupons before going shopping. You will find many deals at stores like Walgreens, Target, KMart regularly. I never buy a book without searching for coupon codes at Borders and B&N.

Also anyone ever coming to NYC, look for the parking and get a fixed price at a garage convenient to you by googling parking garages in NYC. Otherwise you WILL pay an arm and a leg.

Good tip, abasket. Thanks.

CPT, Yes that is a hoax. See my post #282.

I’m one of those people who prides herself on not falling for hoaxes but the ELF one got me. I even googled it but didn’t put in the right terms. I’ll post back when I get the stuff I ordered about the quality.

Suggestions about avoiding headlights/attention look with lingerine while wearing t-shirts and knits? Adhesives are a problem–very sensitive skin & don’t want padding.

Thanks for the tip on Barnes and Noble, stopped to pick up a book—I wouldn’t have know to look for the sale tables. Picked up a couple games for upcoming gifts.

That is a good advice. Last time I ordered some seeds, I googled for the store coupon and got 10 or 15% discount. I would have paid full price anyway.

Purchased Microsoft Office Home and Student, $77.99 at Costco today. Reg price range from $130-149!
