Your Good Buy Of The Day (Part 1)

I would skip Microsoft Office and use the alternative OpenOffice(Sun) for free. I believe it runs on Java Virtual Machine. We just bought a new computer and everything is running fine. I can read/create Word document/Excel file/PowerPoint file.

You can get Microsoft Office Ultimate for $60 at http://www.microsoft.com/student/discounts/theultimatesteal-us/default.aspx</a> if you’re a college student. I got one of these for my son last year. It’s about an $800 bundle.

Last week, my daughter and I were shopping for a desk for her room. She fell in love with a $400 white desk and I said it was too expensive. We then went to Ikea to buy a TV stand and just happened to look in the ā€œas-isā€ section and there was a white desk w/a few minor scratches and a chipped corner (that would later be hidden by her printer) for $78! I’ll be bragging about that buy for a long time!

I got a Wacoal bra at Ross for $8.99! Beats the $62 I paid for similar at Nordstrom! Just got back my AmEx Costco rebate & it’s our spending money for the month of March–YIPPEE!

I got a better deal. I am getting $30 back and free copy Office for Home and Student 2007.

Here in the east we have regular Computer Fairs, essentially a 1 or 2-day flea market for small retailers and liquidators. That’s where I bought my last copy of Lotus SmartSuite for $18.00. For my purposes, SmartSuite is an excellent alternative to Microsoft Office. Any yes, the software is authorized and not bootleg. It all comes with proper product authorization codes.

There’s a huge difference between Office Home/Student and Office Ultimate.

Our 501c3 non-profit qualifies for discount software with techsoup, which offers us legitimate software at amazingly low prices. We got 10 Norton anti-virus licenses for $45, including the CDs for each machine.

I second BCEagle - the packages are very different. College software buying programs are great deals. D got a full package of Adobe programs for less than the price of Photoshop alone.

Buy of the day was at Lord and Taylor for me. I got an email for 25% off clearance items. I went to the shoe department and purchased 2 pairs of designer leather shoes that were marked down plus 50% off the marked down price, and then another 25% off the total. Total price was $48 for not one, but two pairs of shoes! I bought a pair of sling back dress shoes and a pair of everyday flat shoes.

Got a coupon for $10 off $50+ grocery purchase at Safeway just in time for my weekly grocery run. Sorry TJ’s!
If there is a Safeway in your neck of the woods, check their flyer for this deal.

Went to a restaurant with 5 friends. The waiter gave free iced tea or iced coffee to each person and after we finished our multi-course meal, he gave us take home containers for our food AND the food that wast left on the buffet line (tho we didn’t even eat the buffet). We took home the leftovers from lunch and EACH of us took home enough for at least one more meal! The price of the meal was just a bit over $62, so we left him a $15 tip plus an extra $25 on the table, but it was still a tough way for the m to stay in business!

HImom, I’d say that your waiter got the best deal of the of the day; a $15 tip. Most of my friends that eat out often rarely tip over 20%. Usually it’s 15%.

NO the waiter got a $40 tip on a $60+ bill! We got a ton of inexpensive food!

My Safeway grocery run last night was a home run! Our local Safeway had everything I needed on sale: salad mixes, Odwalla mango juice, yogurts, etc. On some items, their discounts were so good, they even beat Costco prices.

Bumping this up: Unbelievable deals today for me at Sears.

I received a coupon for Lands End, so that is what got me into the store. While there I thought I would check the Ladies’ Clearance Section. Well, I ended up with 3 pairs of cashmere lined leather gloves for myself ($4/pair) and a fall and a ski jacket. The jackets were initially priced at $170 each, and I got them today for $20 each! If anyone is like me and likes to buy off season and put it away, I’d check it out. Unfortuately, the Sears in our area did not have much left on clearance for men, but lots of items for women.

Wow! I felt pretty lucky earlier this week when I found deals at Ann Taylor–$169 dress for $9.88 & slacks marked $89 for $9.88 & two sweaters priced around that range also for $9.88. Can’t believe your amazing find on the leather, cashmere-lined gloves! Great find, NEmom!

HIMom, looks like ou did very nicely in Ann Taylor!

My best purchase was not even leather gloves, it was my fall jacket. It is a lined wool Peacoat. It is so nice. I just could not believe this was on the rack for $20. Also, none of the these items were reflected the correct reduction. For example, the gloves were marked at down to 19.99, but the actual price was $4. You just needed ā€œprice checkā€ all of the clearance items.

I LOVE finding items I can use that look great on me that are an amazingly good price. The fall jacket sounds lovely, tho I can’t readily identify (I only have ONE warm weather coat or jacket for when I travel to your colder climates). I guess if I will be doing more winter travel, at some point, I may have to start looking for a nice fall jacket as well–maybe I’ll just tag along with you & get your discards. <lol></lol>

LOL, if I’d ever make it to HI, I’d love to share my winter bargains with you!!! I think that I’d ship them because I would not be able to even look at them if I lived in HI. Sigh… some day, I guess. Well, I can dream about Kauai anyway!
