Not a store deal but…yesterday DH and I went to the morning showing ( a bargain $5/ticket) of The Artist at our local AMC theater. There were only three others in the theater. We sat through all the previews and then…Contraband (new Mark Wahlburg movie) started playing!
The five of us looked at each other in disbelief. Went out to check we were in correct theater…yes…one lady went and found an employee who apologized and after a few minutes got the The Artist running.

As the five of us walked out after the movie, an AMC employee was standing at the door and gave us all free passes to another movie any day,any time…yay!

Thanks for the B&N tip. I ended up picking up an Elvis wall clock, Elvis coasters & an Elvis coffee mug (all for D2 who is a huge Elvis fan) plus a set of magnetic bookmarks for D1 all for $9.82 including tax :)

That’s a great deal, my coworker has a big soft spot for Elivis, I’ll have to check that out.
I found with B&N, in-store beats many online items on clearance and many times they have an in-store coupon as well as online.
I have also found with Banana Republic, many things in the store that don’t reflect online sales and vice-versa. They said they try to appeal to both types of shoppers, sometimes giving the edge to online, sometimes not. I remember the first time I saw a great sweatshirt for 12.00 on sale in the store, no L for me, later online I found it and it was 30.00, no big discount.
I still prefer online, but will go to outlets and bookstores in person more often.

I agree about on-line vs. in-store deals. Last week when I was looking for a pea-coat for my son, I found one that I thought would work so I took it to the self-service price check machine and it was $20!! The sign where it was had it marked down to $45, and I thought that was a steal, so much so that I wanted to check it out before I bought it. Of course, son didn’t like it so it didn’t matter, but that was better then anything I had seen on-line from that store.

Got an awesome Prada belt at Nordy’s yesterday! 70 or so percent off. Of course, being Prada, that thing was still expensive, but it will be absolutely perfect for accessorizing my bargain bin dresses and pencil skirts. :D

Yesterday, we were at Williams Sonoma taking a FREE cooking class. We bought some mulling cider spices in a can (only $2, down from $11), mineral oil for keeping wooden cutting boards & other wooden tools in good condition ($7 - 10% for attending the cooking class), paper mache Christmas decorations filled with candy ($.99 down from $27.99), and Peppermint Bark ($3 instead of $30). All in all, we were very happy with our purchases!

Have to find me a belt–my others have fallen apart (don’t make them very sturdidly any more. :(

GW deal- Rosenthal Classic Crystal Bowl, made in Germany- with original stickers attached and in the original box-I think this was probably a wedding or engagement gift and sat in the back of someone’s closet for over 25 years! I paid $4.80!

My GW day…a woven button-down GAP shirt for DH to wear to work. And for me… a Ralph Lauren t-shirt,a Philosophy by Republic shirt, a Lucky brand purple thermal shirt with pretty sparkly applique on the front and a pr. of Simply Vera, Vera Wang skinny ankle length jeans. Also three paperback books. Total cost $21.30. I think I’m going back tomorrow!

My GW is really crowded on weekends ( families w/ kids underfoot) so I try to go on a weekday for a more relaxed shopping experience :)

Rule #1…You can’t be in a hurry. Think of it more as a treasure hunt rather than going to purchase a specific item. You may have to look through a lot of racks before finding your “treasure” so you have to be patient. You never know what you’ll find which is part of the fun. I tell my DH…you can’t have a preconceived notion…have to be open to the moment…you might find something you love that you weren’t even shopping for.

Rule #2…if you see something you “think” you might want, go ahead and grab it and put it in your cart. If you decide you don’t want it, it’s easy enough to put back but if you leave it and then decide later you want it, it might be gone by then.

Here’s my best GW day for all of you who haven’t heard it…Two summers ago, I bought a really cute Banana Republic canvas purse for a couple of $ at GW. A few days later, I decided to make sure it was really clean before putting my stuff in so I was wiping it out with a damp cloth. I unzipped the inside pocket and stuck my hand in to see of there was any trash inside when something sharp stick in my finger. I pulled out an earring…reached back in and pulled out it’s mate. They were diamonds. I was pretty certain but took them to a jeweler who confirmed that they a very nice cut/quarter carat each, worth over $400…best day ever at GW.

Wow, packmom, that is amazing! I did not recall reading that story!

Moreover, I am a novice. I did notice that on Mondays the GW near me generally has more things because people drop off boxes mostly on Saturdays. Today I went late in the afternoon, and plenty of new merchandise came out, so one does not need to get there when their doors open.
The few things that I have purchased so far have been mostly items that they never even placed onto their shelves. In other words, I found these items within a minute of when they brought them out to their selling floor.

At my GW, they bring the clothing out on rolling racks. Then the GW employees take the clothes from the racks and hang them in whichever area of the store they should go in (mens, womens, childrens, housewares). Veteran GW shoppers are always watching for the new racks to come rolling through the double doors so we can have first shot at new merchandise! They bring new racks out all day long. Tuesdays are Senior Citizen day (they get a discount). The store is always crowded and it seems to me that more racks than usual come out on Senior days. Some of those Seniors are fierce shoppers!

Wednesday is senior day at my GW. They have a “new” rewards program…anyone who spends $20 or more gets 5% off. Not bad.

Today I got my Christmas outfit for December…a gorgeous burgundy tank top with a shirt that goes over it…3/4 length sleeves with rhinestone buttons. $15. More than I usually spend…but it fit perfectly and is gorgeous.

Re: days of the week…Sundays are busy at MY GW because the 1/2 price “color tag” changes on Sundays and folks come in to see what is newly 1/2 price.

Agreed…it has to be viewed as a sport. If you go and expect to find something you will surely be disappointed.

K and Company items at 70% off at Target. Stickers, punches (snowflake and Christmas tree) and “make your own calendar” kits. Those make great Christmas gifts for middle school/teen girls.
