Your Good Buy Of The Day (Part 1)

I’ve used Priceline over 50 times and have always required 2 beds. There has never been an extra charge, but I’ve always called the winning hotel to request 2 beds.

a house!! we’ll be closing and moving on June 26th. i’ll be going to goodwill, but to drop off lots and lots of unwanted home items. i feel sorry for the sellers but it was a fantastic deal for us!

we just moved a year ago, so i’m dreading the whole moving process–most of the stuff was still in “totes” in our basement, so it’s not awful. this will be our 16th residence in our marriage–i am quite the expert at packing.

Salvation Army halves the price of clothes on Wednesday. I also donate a lot there. Also get books there. Very good VHS selections there too. You can get a player very cheaply from there or at other second hand places for very little.

I’ve never tried Priceline due to fear and ignorance. I had no idea you can lowball the going rate by that much and prevail. Thanks for the enlightenment.

I needed to get a new pair of headphones so i went to walmart to get them and to my surprise they were on sale. That made my day.

Ticket for staight flight from LA to Detroit - $123

Queen Seally matress set - $399.

Just got a 3.5 star hotel room in a city for $47 plus tax through the name your own price website. I am not expecting a true 3.5 start hotel, just something clean with a comfortable mattress. Pics do not look like 3.5 star, but do look like 2.5 star which will meet our need of a place to sleep without breaking the bank. Best price that I think that I could get on my own is $99 plus tax.

Yesterday at the Gap Outlet. I had an armful of clothes to purchase for various family members. I noticed they had a really cute reusable Gap bag for sale - I’m a sucker for these reusable bags! The bag was $4.49 and I thought forget it, I didn’t want to pay that much. THEN I noticed that when you buy the bag, you get 10% all your purchases in 2009 if you bring the bag into the store! So my $100 bill yesterday actually got $10 off thereby making the bag free! Plus, since I keep my reusables in my trunk, I can keep on saving right thru Christmas 09! I thought that was a GREAT deal!

I’ve bought so many sale items on Lands End online that I’ve got a whole new wardrobe that I can wear to work, and every single thing I bought was on sale. I’m now working on long sleeve tops for winter. If you order something you’ll get emails with free shipping and new sale items. I’m very happy and look better too!

over30, I have bought a lot their things recently too. In the Sears store, their Landsend line used to hardly ever be on sale. I guess in this economy they have had frequent sales and items on clearance. If you go to Sears to place an online order there won’t be a shipping charge and your order is delivered to your home. Also, if you try something on and you’d like a different color or size, you can order it at Sears from their website (computers are in our local Sears for customers to use, or it can be done by phone. I have found the salespeople to be very helpful with this). I did this once and it worked out very well.

Good idea. I never thought about ordering from the store. I have 3 tops that I need to return and am heading to Sears tonight. They make returns easy too.

Well, I ordered through the store once. I felt a bit uncomfortable giving out private info over the phone in the Sears store. I would try their in store computers and see if I feel more comfortable ordering that way.

I ordered online from home twice, which is far easier to do, IMO, than shopping at home and then placing an order while at the Sears store. I returned just about everything that I purchased from one of those orders. I returned the items to my local Sears. The salesperson told me that I could have saved the $8 in shipping if I had placed the order at one of their stores. Needless to say, when gas is pricey it is not a bargain to make a special trip to Sears to save $8! If one is going there anyway, that’s a different story.

for $1.00. Hope it works so that I can transfer Beta tapes to VHS tapes then to digital then to ???.

I got a microwave (originally 150) for $18 brand new.

icedragon, you win! My best (and only) purchase today was an online order from Bobbi Brown at 25% off.

Good job northeast mom on your hotel bid. Are you familair with betterbidding.com and Tripadvisor? I go to better bidding to see what hotel I am most likely to get if I bid in a certain zone on Priceline (and to see what other people’s successful bids are), and then check all the hotels in that zone on Tripadvisor before I bid.

Tripadvisor has reviews and rankings for all the hotels in a certain city or suburb. I will overlook one bad review , but if a hotel gets all bad reviews, I take that seriously and stay away.

If there is a good chance I’m going to get a hotel that is unsatisfactory, I try to switch zones. Last resort, I will use my AAA card to get a discount, or book directly on the hotel’s web site, which is usually where you get the lowest price compared to Expedia, etc.

vderon, thank you, yes, I am familiar with those 2 sites, as well as bidding for travel.

Check ebay for last minute theater or concert tickets. Last week I got third row seats to Crosby, Stills, and Nash for less than face value, plus avoided the dreaded $8 ticketmaster surcharge on each ticket.

I figured you knew about those sites Northeast mom. I quit biddingfortravel because the moderator there is um, kind of cranky and scary.

Well, I don’t post on those sites. I just lurk when I need a hotel room.
