I purchased a Fire Magic Echelon Diamond series built-in bbq for $3,000. It was a floor sample at a local building supply store. They wanted to unload it before the new model arrived. It had a sales price of $5498.00 (list price is $6179.00). That’s a lot of money for a bbq, but my last one was 12 years old when we sold the house and it got used at least 3 times per week out here in mild weather CA.

the Loft sweater is great. I don’t feel any wool - it’s more like the acrylic sweaters of our teens. I wear them on the weekend with a crew neck ss tshirt under it or to work w a deep vneck tshirt that doesn’t show.

They do have cotton sweaters on sale too today - all sweaters are $15-25. Best sweater sale I’ve ever seen at Loft.

I know there is a great markup and that’s why I hate coupons sometimes. I’d rather have lower cost and occasional coupons.
When I worked in a gift shop 50% was standard, we bought it for 25, it was marked 50.00., sometimes more. When it got more than 50% off, we lost money, but sometimes it was better to have some than none. For a small shop, that was standard. Larger stores have a wider margin.

I realize before some stores have great markdowns, some prices go up. Kohl’s has great buys but their regular prices on many items are just so high, it isn’t realistic, it should be lower so I don’t feel I scored unless it was a great drop in price.

Today, I got 6 knives (they are normally $17.99)–got 3 for $20 with the $10 off $25 purchase at Macy’s. So for $40, got 6 knives. Also got two cotton sweaters for D–(normally $44 and $20) for $21 total for the pair, again using the coupon. I don’t really like coupons, but it seems the stores love having them and it can make a pretty big difference in the total purchase price. Would NOT have gone to Macy’s if I wasn’t there to see about using the coupons.

Lands End is having a promotion today, $40 off $100, free shipping. CANDYCANE, pin 5025.

I’m sorry I missed out on the LLBean hoodie! Is it the one that is fleece-lined? (The link brings up today’s deal, backpacks.) That one would be perfect for S1. I may buy it anyway.

OK, went to Macy’s yet AGAIN and bought MORE gifts. Bought several men’s dress shirts–Alfami and Tasso Elba. Their listed price is $49 to $59 apiece and I got them for $11.99-$14.99 apiece. I also picked up a red satin blouse my mom liked to add to her gift–it was marked $49 and I paid $12.60. I also bought some Godiva stocking stuffers so that I could complete the purchases and use my $10 off $25 purchase at Macy’s. 4 stocking stuffers priced at $2.95 to $3.95 sold at $1.47 to $1.95. Total price for 3 men’s dress shirts, a blouse and 4 Godiva stocking stuffers, as well as 2 panties (originally $9.50-10.50 apiece purchased at $2.41 and 2.99) with tax was $83.32!

I’m very pleased, especially as these are “slim cut” shirts, which both H & S prefer (they swim in the others).

The markup on clothing is AMAZING! Am hoping H & S will like & fit the shirts. Can take the ones they don’t want back, as I have saved ALL my receipts.

My BEST deal was a FREE ham (shank portion) worth over $20 because I gave them two certificates from making purchases at the neighborhood market throughout the year. I also got a Butterball turkey from my folk’s freezer that we will be making for my sister’s Christmas Eve party! We will be smoking two turkeys & making the ham for two parties soon.

The Fannie Mae Candy ad in last Sunday’s Tribune had their annual $10 coupon, no minimum purchase. So I went in and got 2/3 pound of chocolates; paid $1.36. It’s become my annual tradition!

I got some Van Heusen “Touchscreen” gloves for my H, on sale at 50% off. That part was good, but the bad news is…Son loved them too but I couldn’t find any more in that size. Not IRL, not online, not on anyone’s web site. S/M yes, not M/L. They must be wildly popular!
