Your Good Buy Of The Day (Part 1)

Jos A Banks is having a clearance on sportswear–lambswool sweaters are $15, corduroy pants are $20, lots of shirts at $15. DH likes the sweaters for cold weather.

I have the Defender Otterbox - the really heavy duty one with the extra front screen too. I thought I might hate it but I like the way the phone feels with it - more substantial. I do want a more colorful one though. I bought solid black but now I see lots of people with cooler ones.

DD had an Otterbox defender which was perfect for her dusty time in Africa. However, it’s way too bulky for here…so she left it with another Peace corp volunteer.

When I get MY iPhone, I’m getting a Vera Wang case!

HImom - S and H got screen protectors and the bubbles disappeared in a few days. They also got the Otterbox Commuter. H likes it and S is going to get something else, but is keeping this one until then. D and I did not get screen protectors, but did get this case: [Amazon.com: SF Matte Black - Apple iPhone 5 Ringke SLIM Soft Feeling Premium Hard Case AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and Unlocked - Eco Package: Cell Phones & Accessories](http://www.amazon.com/SF-Matte-Black-Feeling-Unlocked/dp/B00993E8B6)
It adds protection from scratches, but I’m not sure it would protect it from a fall.

Pretty sure I’m going with the aqua blue/mineral blue case. If anyone sees a better deal on them, let me know.

I’m on my third iPhone and they were fine in cheapo cases. They really are made pretty tough. I liked being able to slide them into a pants pocket. This otterbox thing is so big I feel like I’m packing an extra (fat) wallet when I put it in my purse.

Just an FYI…the DAY my kid took her IPhone out of that Otterbox, she dropped it and the screen cracked.

I have the iPhone 4s. Within a week of purchasing it, it slipped out of my hand and the screen cracked into smithereens. I use an otterbox commuter with the replacement; have dropped it several times (I guess I’m a klutz) without damage. The vulnerability of the screen was pretty widely publicized with the 4s. Maybe the 5 is sturdier.

I made a case using the website Casetegram. It has lots of little pictures of my kids on it from through the years, taken from FB and Instagram pics I’ve taken. It is just adorable. Not a lot of protection but I’m not a big phone dropper. Plus, I have the Apple coverage. It is just adorable. I love it!

I wouldn’t go without a case, I’m just saying that in the several years that I’ve had an iPhone, a less expensive phone case protected it just fine. (But now you all have made me worry!)

Hey, anyone getting any after Christmas deals on on-line food stuff, like Hickory Farms?

New iPhone owners might check out a warranty from Squaretrade.

I am a klutz but I am not a Navy SEAL so I didnt feel I needed an Otterbox.
I like Switcheasy because pretty colors, fits perfect & I like having a button for the home key.
Since part of the front is protected, that provides just enough coverage to protect the screen when it is dropped face down.

I saw the drop tests on the i5 iPhones. They had to be for sculpt thrown from shoulder height to break. Was told be apple today that they’ll sell replacement iPhones for $149 no matter why they are being replaced–drop, wet, or misuse. That sounds good to me and our family tends not to misuse phones. Mostly I drop phones from waist or so not shoulder throwing it to ground. Think I’ll try taking my chances.

I have this flip case for the iPhone 5. I like it because I don’t have to remove the case to dock it on my new JBL speaker/charger dock. IMO–Amazon has the best prices for cases.

PS–plenty of colors to choose from.

If you have a Dillard’s near you, the best sale of the year is today. It’s just a battle to find a parking spot.

^^^ive been hearing this all morning!!!

I vowed to stay away from stores till mid January. Need to get rid of some stuff before I buy more!!!

(MaryMac15535’s mom here) Bought a preowned 4th gen iPod Classic from GameStop.com for my daughter for Christmas; found out Christmas morning it was DOA. :frowning:
Took it to the local brick & mortar GameStop the next day & up-exchanged it for a Gen 5.5 iPod Classic; since the manager also refunded the shipping and recalculated the sales tax at a lower rate, the price difference was less than $1 (woohoo!) Daughter is very happy, and has already transferred almost her entire music library from her old MP3 player, with plenty of room left over. Now I just need to find a clock radio with a charger/dock for the iPod for her birthday, preferably very compact (so it’ll easily fit in a dorm room next school year).

J Jill is having an extra 30% off sale items in the stores. I picked up a cardigan, merino wool top, a dress and a cord shirt/jacket. Paid about 45% of original price. Just remember to try on everything! It all fits, and the sizes range from S to L, with a M petite in the mix!

I went grocery shopping today and our local Vons (Safeway). They had a gift card deal - buy $50 of GAP store cards (includes Piperlime, Banana Republic, and Old Navy) and get $10 off. I bought two $25 cards to add to my gift stash. Then, I also happened to buy more than $75 in groceries and I got $12 off for next week’s shopping.

Ebates has 4% rebate on Amazon for textbooks for a limited time. O.K., not really a Good Buy, but takes a little of the sting off textbook bill…
