My mother just did the Sam’s deal yesterday in Atlanta, so I am guessing it is all locations. Her membership had expired and she hated to pay so much as she is also a member at Costco and BJ’s, so she still gets certain things at Sam’s.

Has anyone else had a problem with socks that just don’t hold up and get holes in the toe area? I’ve become so frustrated with buying socks whose patterns I like but wear out in less then a year. I used to just throw socks with holes away since it was kind of rare but within the last couple of years, that’s been more the norm so this winter I thought it would be no big deal to just put aside the holey socks and sew them up one evening. So I did, but it bugs me that I had to do that. I decided to spend more and get socks that were guaranteed.

With that in mind I was browsing the sock section at Target and came upon Alaskan Knit socks. They had some interesting designs, a life guarantee for replacement and were on sale for $5.60. These are great socks! After wearing them, I went back and bought four more pairs, and I tucked the little guarantee label in a corner of my drawer. The deal was that the price started at over $8.00, which is probably why they weren’t selling well in Target.

I’ve been buying the males in my family the socks from Costco that are only sold in the winter. They depend on them. Hold up very, very well and come in sizes.

I feel like I point to TJ Maxx for everything anymore, but that is where I buy most of my socks as well as socks for my son who goes through socks like crazy (not necessarily wears them out, but loses them!!)

This season I bought great athletic socks there - Northface, Columbia, Puma and more - they have wore well so far and the prices were at least 50% off retail. Great for tights too!

The only socks that really seem to wear out in the toes too quickly are the super-cheap ones I buy for my son at JCPenney (always when they are buy one get one, which is a lot of the time, it seems). I buy him super-cheap socks because he is hard on socks, and he might as well be hard on the cheap ones I don’t mind replacing ;-)

On the subject of holes in socks, I know for me, my problem is if my toe nails get too long I end up with holes at the toes. Once I realized that, I kept my nails shorter and haven’t had the problem any more.

Yeah, I thought it might be long toenails too, so I made a point of keeping them very short and that’s been for awhile. I think it was mostly buying (cute) Kohls socks. I don’t have a TJ maxx near me, but I do have a Ross. I’ll look there.

So weird that you would post this, I bought a six pack of the thicker style Adidas socks at Costco just before Christmas, by January I had thrown out a couple of pairs with holes in the heel or ball of the foot, or both. I don’t know if I ended up wearing the same two pairs all the time and I do walk 20-30 miles a week, but I have never had socks get holes in a month. I wonder if it is my new shoes?

What a bummer! I can’t wear wool socks. I got four pairs of smart wool socks (new) at my favorite thrift store for $2 a pair. I gave them to my daughter.

My favorite socks now are bamboo! Really soft, durable, warm and not expensive!
