Your Good Buy Of The Day (Part 1)

My deal of the day was going back to Sports Authority. I got a waterproof (or at least strongly water resistant) jacket, a fleece vest that is also water & stain resistant as well as two performance gear long-sleeved zippered tops for a total of $90! One of the tops will be my belated gift to my niece & the others will be great for my upcoming trip!

Can’t top your $.15/tablecloth; amazing!

Ebay is fine for cell phones. I have bought a couple (some phones do not use sim cards). And now ebay has a buyer protection plan.

S has purchased at least 2 cell phones on ebay & had no problems with them. He’s also sold one on ebay. Be sure you use buyers who have high satisfaction ratings & you should be fine.

My deal of the day was not your usual one from a store. I snagged RT tickets to Tokyo from Newark for $450.00 each. We could not pass this by. My soon to graduate from hs daughter burst into tears when I told her as Tokyo is the one city she has wanted to visit more then any other.

Well…I was at my favorite “boutique”…Goodwill. SOMEONE must have dropped off MY size clothes. I got J Jill capris, Chicos khaki slacks, Ann Taylor dress (very nice…might wear it today for Easter), Ann Taylor little down parka, flannal PJs (with tags on them), Talbots T shirt, 9 West white purse, a great hot pink tea length “party dress”…and a silver plated casserole dish holder (to replace the one I had that the handle broke off of). Grand total…$60.

When I feel a need for retail therapy I usually head to Target. Love their hoodies. Have them in a zillion colors and they are really, really cheap. Also enjoy their really cheap costume jewelry. Much less damaging to the bank account then a trip to the mall.

She bought a new phone off of ebay. It was new but an older model. Ordered it Thurs night Ca time. She had the phone on Sat east coast time. I was impressed. Ordered from a seller with almost 10,000 feedback with a 99% positive rating.
I find Target isn’t always the cheapest retail therapy. I am always shocked at how all the little stuff adds up. I did wear my 8 dollar Target T shirt yesterday.
Friday I wore my Kohl’s on sale 8 dollar on sale Sonoma T. It has a different neckline and I actually got some nice compliments on it.

Yes, little things add up, especially when you’re at Costco (which is 5 minutes from our home). I try notto have a shopping cart, as it makes things too convenient to add to the pile. ;)

I’m kind of glad that Target is a 30-45 minute drive from my home, so don’t do it very often at all. If it were closer, it might be a temptation.

My Target is 45 minute drive from my house. I rarely make the drive. It would be much worse if I did. Costco is 20 minutes away. I used to go once every couple of months. This year my D goes to school at the same exit as Costco. It is easy to just pop in 40 minutes before pick up time. Spent much more at Costco this past year.

We love Costco and do tend to spend a lot when we go. But we believe we save money in the long run. So many of their products are really good quality - the frozen sea food, for example. For 25$ I can get three outstanding wild salmon dinners for our family. Really hard to beat that. Also, staples like rice. I love the imported Chinese rice in the huge sack. Takes me a year to go through a $20 sack. And it’s great rice, really long grains, always delicious. Also, if you are into wine, the selection is quite good and their are some great bargains. And the fresh produce keeps getting better. Just one example, a box of clementines at our Costco this winter ran about $5 while at Walmart or my local grocery store it would be in the $8 range. Finally, items like vitamins, ibuprofin, shampoo are all really good buys at Costco.

I think you need to not be operating paycheck to paycheck to make Costco work for you. You need to buy in bulk and put out a pretty big sum of money all at once in order to reap the longterm monetary benefit.

I do think that we really do often “get what we pay for.” Not always, but usually. I think Costco, in general, has terrific quality at good prices.

Way to go Thumper. The “GW” as we affectionately refer to it at our house was my first stop on Saturday.

I picked up some Ann Taylor Loft black knit capris for myself but was really shopping for my college soph S2 who was home for Easter break and needed shirts.
For him I got a new Gap pocket tee, a Gap purple/white tiny check button down shirt that he wore to church the next day and looked awesome and a Brooks Bros. button down shirt sort of red/khaki plaid that will look great with jeans or khakis.
Total cost…$15.01

Then I stopped by the Giant Salvation Army store across from the GW and picked up an Izod Lacoste polo for S2…for $1.61.

Also got him khaki shorts from Kohl’s reduced to $11.99.
S2 went back to college a happy camper.

Priceline came through again. I am paying $55 for a one night stay. The best rate I could find with discounts is $144 per night.

AAA discount made my Hertz reservations less expensive than the Dollar’s rates. I’m so looking forward to not having to drive a beat up monstrous tank with 25K miles on the odometer.

BB, just curious- I understand why you don’t want a beat up monstrous tank but 25K on the odometer? At our house, that car would be considered young.

My best buy lately- I took a malfunctioning part back to Babies R Us and not only got a replacement but was given a partial refund as the item was now on clearance.

^^Rental car agencies usually do not keep their cars past 10K. At my house, a car with 50K is considered brand new  but we do not treat them like average renters do.

Yea, Costco is one of my favorite places to shop. I like to bring my mom or someone to split food with so I don’t end up with quite so much (with just hubby & me home, rather have smaller quantities).

I especially ove to get clothing there, especially when they have my size; have had to ask them a few times to keep ordering it instead of only supersizes. Can rarely find things in hubby’s size (he’s 30x30). When we see them, we tend to scoop them up because if we blink, someone else gets them & they’re out of his size.

Went to Target today & got some Easter candy for 1/2 off to include in a care box for D & S (she wanted her jacket & it helped pad the DVD she also wanted me to include). Since it fit nicely in flat rate box, I figured why not add a few extras.

Just got front row tickets to Wicked for $25!!!

Two hours before every show, they draw names, allowing 20 tickets to be sold for $25each. Apparently, this goes on all over the country, before each performance.

Congratulations on the Wicked tickets. We have seen Wicked many times both on Broadway and on tour. Last summer D and I won the lottery for the $25 front row seats when they were on tour in our town. The seats are off to the side, but very close so we had a different perspective of the show than we had ever had before.

So happy for you Toledo! Enjoy!

toledo - that’s AWESOME. Enjoy!

I stopped at a local Nordy’s to return a pair of shoes and walked out with a very nice running outfit: shorts and a dri-fit long sleeve shirt, both were 40% off. There were some other nice things on the clearance racks, but not in my sizes.
