@suzyQ7, she does have jeans but since she has 15 minute walk to school every day, she doesn’t want to be wearing jeans every day when it is still hot out. She gets hot very easily so needs some options other than jeans for the first two months or so.
@4kids4us, Costco has great prices on down comforters if you are a member. I have also purchased at Company store, but I don’t remember what warmth. We’ve found lighter is better for us, even though it gets cold here in the winter.
I just bought two 20±oz T-bones, with a goodly amount of filet on them, for about $15. They’re being sold for $5.99/lb at the neighborhood Hy-Vee. (Davenport, IA)
These are about 1.5" thick too – not top steakhouse-thick, but pretty decent.
Weds is $5 sushi day at several places near us (prepackaged, but freshly made, at nearby stores). Fresh Market’s is the best, and the sushi chef (well that may be a stretch) made an extra pack of inari for me today and put an extra piece!
Rats. Got several things on sale to day but I think one didn’t ring up right. It should have been $4 less than I was charged. Now have to decide if its worth bothering to deal with it for $4. That said, it is near my gym, so not that much of an inconvenience…
@jym626 I love a good deal, but I can’t imagine I could find a good use for rats. Maybe if it was a really good deal.
@RandyErika . Groan.
@RandyErika - the store opened at 9 so I took the items in and got my $4 credit on my way to the gym. Win-win. Got 2 men’s long sleeved shirts and 2 ladies tops for under $65. No rats involved
@RandyErika - I’d normally agree about the rats, but apparently there are bomb sniffing rats, and they’re also GIANT RATS!

@greenwitch - you should post the link to that article here! http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/parent-cafe/2147878-you-just-cant-make-this-stuff-up-the-crazy-news-of-the-day-thread.html#latest
Always searching for decent white t-shirts (women’s) for under jackets etc. Tractor Supply- $7.99/ Slight v-neck, decent quality- and inexpensive! Lots of other colors, too.
I don’t think I’ve ever been in a Tractor Supply. I did recently read an article that said plain white Hanes are a great buy for white T shirts. I love a plain white t shirt and I’ve tried a lot of expensive brands. If I come across a Tractor Supply on my travels I’ll now have a reason to go in.
@mom60 You would be surprised at what you can find in Tractor Supply. Boots, decorative items, great pet food and products, lemon drops, good hand cream- and the tshirts.
Tractor supply Moose Munch!
I want to get a new pair of Sloggers, which are very comfy shoes and boots for gardening (and I guess, mucking out the stables), and my closest local source is a Tractor Supply. I guess I’ll go!
P.S. I just dyed my hair purple and look a bit Elvira-ish so it should be an extra interesting trip.
@doschicos This is helpful! Note that prime members will need to scan their prime code to get the deal.
Great deals today:
A) Went with DH (to buy some shirts!) at Nordstrom Rack. Had a giftcard so they cost us nothing, but also when they typed in my nordies #, a “secret” , free $10 credit was there! Free $ 10-- and still have some $ left on the giftcard. So cost so far- zero (plus a $10 bonus)
B) Cashed in to get $50 dining on our Opentable account, and went to one of our favorite sushi restaurants. I also happen to have won a thing at that restaurant last December that entitles me to one free craft cocktail (and they are fabulous) a month (we forgot about it and haven’t used that since April). So we had a great meal, and $50 plus the cost of a cocktail came off the bill! DH paid the balance on our Discover card (5% back this quarter-- remember this folks!)
A friend took me to brunch today for a belated birthday. So-- free brunch today too Great day. Dust might fall out of my wallet when I open it tomorrow
Just notified insurer that D has new address. Her auto insurance dropped by $60/6month period! Too bad I didn’t call earlier as she’s lived in the new location for quite awhile now. Oh well, better late than never.
Also, was happy to get a nice low $229 car rental for 8 days in SF! In the glove box, there was s receipt of a prior renter—$368 for 4 days!
First day of Nordstrom Anniversary Sale for cardholders. I was on in the first 10 minutes and started with kids’ clothes to get some things for my granddaughter. Last year I texted DIL to get size info and things were gone by the time she responded. This year pink leggings that would go with several things were gone in the first 15 minutes in toddler sizes. I guess those are one of the basics that everyone wants to snag at $9.90. I found 4 dresses to try for nephew’s wedding in November and a few other things. With free shipping & free returns, it’s no wonder that it’s an online stampede to shop this sale. Site was glitchy several times, but at least it didn’t crash like it did last year.
The one thing I was looking at buying at the Nordstrom sale was sold out of my size 10 minutes after the sale started. Higher level spenders could shop yesterday so I think it was snapped up before the sale opened to all cardholders.
The good news is that there is nothing I can’t live without. Bought a pair of pants for H that were limited also.
