Your Good Buy Of The Day (Part 1)

Very nice, @HImom. I never seem to find anything that nice at the Ross store in my area.

H was sure I’d not find everything because everything he saw at that store was dreadful but I’ve generally had pretty good luck. He was pleasantly surprised I found these gems and likes them on me.

Lauren tends to fit me well and look very nice on me. I probably have about 2/3s of my dresses that brand. :-). I especially like that the dresses are washable.

Both are very pretty. Pretty dresses at a bargain price. A Win-Win!

a bunch of clearance Prima Donna swimwear is on the way to my house. Also got a couple of Marie Jo bras - they were also included in the discount!

@jym626 re skiing our local price passes did go up considerably ($100) as we are now part of that Epic/Vail acquisition. There are lots of perks (access to other OH parks, but we live by the best one so this doesn’t help, and access to parks out East which also we won’t use). But we can buy our local passes through DS’ ski club, so waiting to see if that pricing increased.

We are planning a trip to CO this spring and are waiting to see if that Epic pass will be cheaper than our local pass with club discount+ just buying a multi day package for Keystone. Without the ski club discount, it would work out to be about the same.

@TS0104 - Some of the epic passes come with buddy pass and/or “ski with a friend” passes, so one possibility is buying one pass and then buying the second lift ticket with the buddy pass. The “ski with a friend” pricing varies based on demand (dynamic pricing) so its less predictable. You might also want to check on the cutoff date for the discounted pricing for the passes. The ones my DS bought had a cutoff date of Oct 13. Good luck!

For skiing, depending on when you are going in the spring, you may be able to buy a season pass for “next” year and use it at the end of “this” year. I was going to Tahoe one year for spring break, and it worked out really well for us, so that we could afford to go the next year too.

Yesterday, at the mall there was a promotion for an environmental nonprofit. One of the prizes was a metal boba straw with its own brush and cloth carrying bag. It was the prize I chose.

Also was mailed two “sit and be fit” DVDs that I may use at my support group meetings. They were a thank you for being in a focus group.

Today I received a box of samples for saline nasal spray! I can give them to patients in upcoming events.

If anyone wants to fly TOMORROW I got an email from Jet Blue offering $31 flights (each way) across the country for tomorrow only!

I went back to read the comments in this thread from a year ago about weighted blankets. I store near me (Tuesday Morning) is having a sale, and the London Fog weighted blankets were on sale for $39.99 . They happened to have one left, and it was in the color I needed (they had another brand for $10 or so more, but the last London Fog they had happened to be a better color for me).

The one I bought for DS#2 and his wife this past summer was a specific brand they wanted and cost $179. So I figured $40 was a good deal (the London Fogs are ~$80 on line). There happen to be 2 Tuesday Morning stores closing in the metro area, but I wasn’t going to bother driving to them, as the one near me was much more convenient, especially in the rain, and it isn’t worth fighting traffic for a few extra dollars.

So, thoughts/opinions on weighted blankets? I’ve woken up shortly after falling asleep a few times this week, so it seemed fortuitous that this happened to be on sale. Does it really help with sleep? Do you like them?

Sounds like a great price—am looking forward to your comments about them.

This article on weighted blankets and how to buy one I found helpful.

Well, neither the one I just bought nor the expensive one I bought the kids is on that list
but, oh well. I’ve been cuddled under this one for a while. Its hot.

I don’t have one but have read a lot about them.

I think you should start a thread about them - I’ll bet lots of people have experience with different brands/types - they are a hot item (pun!) right now.

That said, there are different weights. There are cooling blankets. One thing to check is how washable one is - some are easier to launder.

I’ve heard many people saying they love/value their blanket.

Probably will pass on starting a thread since I already bought this one and the one last summer for the kids. I think I am happy to not know what I don’t know.

For the people talking about booties
Costco has Chooka fur lined short rain boots for $19.99. They’ve been there a while (I follow a Costo Instagram account) and might be out, or picked over( my store only has size 6 and 7). I tried the 7 on and while it was too small, it was warm and comfy and cute. Looked them up once home and they are $60 on Poshmark.

We haven’t tried a weighted blanket but just switched to a quilt/coverlet type thing instead of a comforter. I LOVE it. I love feeling the little bit of extra weight. I think I am waking up less often, and when I do , I like the gentle weight of the quilt as opposed to the light airy comforter.

My 3 Ds love their weighted blankets. They’ve come to the conclusion that weight greater than about 15 lb is too heavy and that fleece gets too hot. And one D had one made but the squares are too big and the beads slide around and gather too much rather than stay evenly spaced. So, their recommendations (for a female of average weight) would relate to weight, fabric that breathes and beads that stay even throughout the blanket.

For any seamstresses, JoAnn’s now sells a weighted blanket insert. You can sew the cover in any fabric you like and tie the blanket inside. You could of course have cotton for the summer and fleece or flannel for the winter.
