Thank you, @abasket. I’ve just spent the last 15 minutes looking for where it was discussed in another thread! Someone today referred to (and apologies I forget the number so am just using one for example) - they said something like “S25 just got married” so that seemed pretty clear that they were talking age. Then here it looked like it was … well it wasn’t clear!! As @abasket is saying, its changed from the way us oldie goldies have gotten accustomed to, and to add to the confusion, its inconsistent across posts/posters. Wonder if there is any way to address this?
@abasket, on non-collegeconfidential message boards that I post on, it’s pretty standard for people to refer to their kids by age so D25 would mean “my 25y/o daughter.” It wasn’t until I came to collegecomfodential and was posting on threads pertaining to h.s. And the college application process that I realized the number signified the high school grad year (for instance, oN the Parents Forum, there is a whole sub-menu for Class of Xxxx where it seems that subthreads go by h.s. grad year even if their kids are 10 years out of college.
So while I appreciate there are many of you who have been around since CC started, in which case it is weird to refer to your adult child by their h.s. grad year, most people start here when their kids are in still h.s. so that is how they seem to refer to their children, at least the newer folk like me (whose oldest is still in college). And it’s confusing because my kids’ grad years are also so similar to my kids’ ages as well, whereas those of you who have been around a much longer time don’t have that confusion.
Don’t know what the solution is. @jym626 and @abasket, when you talk about your kids, do you use their ages? I guess I’ve been around long enough to recognize who some of the old timers are as well as who the current h.s parents are b/c they frequent the same “Class of XXXX” pages I do, so I know what they mean when they say S19 and D23 (grad years, not ages).
Free to me today, someone a few blocks over put it out for trash: https://img.letgo.com/images/16/f1/2b/84/16f12b843bc30e76226a0c67ef571bbf.jpeg
It took me about a half hour to inflate the tires and tighten some nuts. Super comfy ride. Ready to put on a basket and go farmer’s marketing…in spring
BEACH BIKE!!
Yes!! It took me a bit to get used to braking with the pedals…been a LONG time since I had a bike like that!
Awesome leave by the people and find for you!
The age/hs grad year problem will soon be gone. It was an issue when the 16 year old was class of 2018, but now that we’re moving into the 2020’s, it will be easy to know if the kid is 16 and in the class of 2021 or 16 and in the class of 2018.
I think we’ll know that the S22 doesn’t mean it is a 22 year old high school kid. I’m not sure how much longer I’ll remember what class my kids were in.
But will it mean class of 22 or a 22 yr old? I am too old to have to navigate this for a few more years!
Maybe we shouldn’t hijack this thread, but perhaps start another in the parents cafe and see if we can get some consistency?
Well, I think the Kirkland brand champagne is an amazing buy $19.99 and could easily pass for something more expensive!
@abasket, @4kids4us, @twoinanddone, etc, so we do not hijack this thread, I’ve started a thread in the cafe to address the confusion in the age/class delineation. IMO, this has long been a college forum, and the year should refer to the class, not the age (we might even consider clarifying if we are talking about HS class of or College class of). But to add yet a THIRD possible delineation just confuses matters more. Please, lets be consistent here.
Now, as for good buys, Macy’s put up more good deals on kitchenware, etc. IMO the T-fal is a better deal, with the quality and quantity of items included in the sale, if one needs some relatively inexpensive cookware and other kitchen pieces.
If there is something you are interested in at Target, try sticking it in your online shopping cart then ignoring it. That got me an email with a promotional $10 gift card to use on that item or anything else.
Only till midnight (not sure which coast??)…Penzey’s gift cards, $35 for a $50 gift card!

Yesterday at the grocery store I noticed a piece of beef with a “reduced price” sticker, due it being a day or two old. The original price of $61 had been reduced to $48. I took a look and immediately understood why it hadn’t sold; it was a steak priced as if it was a roast. It was labelled as a rib roast weighing almost 7 pounds but, in reality, it was a ribeye steak that weighed at most a pound and a half. Apparently the person who marks down the unsold meat just applied a percentage off formula without bothering to pay attention to the actual situation.
So I took it the customer service department, pointed out the problem, and told the woman that I’d be happy to buy it at a reasonable price based on the actual weight, less a little because they’d already determined it was old enough to be marked down.
Thinking it reasonable, I offered $10.00. The woman explained that it wouldn’t be that simple, and that she’d need to talk with the “meat manager”, who had already left for the day. I asked for the store manager, who quickly sized up the situation, and offered to sell it for $6.00.
That just might have been the most delicious steak I’ve ever had.
Just bought a J Crew 100% wool sweater on sale for $29.99 plus tax with free shipping to my home!
Also bought two hoodies from Columbia & 4 hats on sale plus Rakuten.com 15% cash rebates! I’m happy!
Rue la la forgot to apply my credit on my cr card for double charging me for a return shipping. So I emailed them today for a status. They apologized, said they would apply the credit to my credit card, and put ANOTHER $40 on my Rue la la account. So now I have $120 credit on Rue la la .
An $80 North Face fleece for S(ummm… hold on, I’m counting…)26 today. With Cyber deals and reward points, I got it for under $40 total. Woo Hoo
Still haven’t seen the refund from Rue la la yet. If it doesn’t show up on my AM Ex account by Tuesday I’ll call again. Maybe they’ll add another $40 to my account!
So on another thread I described that I ultimately returned (the customer service person intercepted and sent back) a suitcase that was $25 more on ebag’s site than on another (with rebate difference the net savings I had from ordering on the second site is $15, and the luggage should arrive Tuesday). So today I get an email from ebags essentially saying sorry I returned something, and putting $7.95 in my ebags account!
D3 was looking for a toaster oven, and dismayed that the local thrift store only had two - marked as $32 and $38. But she didn’t realize that the red slash meant they were half price.
A $16 used Black and Decker toaster is one thing, a $19 barely used DeLonghi convection/toaster oven that retailed for $150 is quite another! She and her bagels are very happy now.
Yay! Just got some 100% cotton PJs for me from Macy’s. It was a struggle, but finally completed the sale and was able to use up a gift card, plus buy a few bras that were also on sale. The PJs were a set for $19.99 (special price). We had trouble using a gift card with a tiny balance (under $4), so the customer service guy applied that amount as a courtesy discount, so the PJs were even cheaper! I also was able to use my larger gift card of $45+ and will be getting $20 in Macy’s cash that maybe we will use toward a little gift to go with cash for nephew’s 2020 wedding.
I had really been wanting some cotton flannel PJs–they are the 1st pair cotton I have bought for myself in ages and I think they will be perfect, especially for the price. The reviews were mostly positive.
If you don’t mind keeping this until next Hanukkah, this is a great buy:

Hanukkah wrapping paper set: I thought it was a great buy at $11 with free shipping several weeks ago. Huge amount of paper, nice weight, lines on the back for cutting and bows, tags, etc. It’s now under $5.
