Your Good Buy Of The Day (Part 1)

I saw this gorgeous tablecloth (French made…not William Sonoma) at Bloomingdales. At $450 (yeah) I would never buy it (plus napkins that were $25 each. Watched them come down…395…250…149…Was sifting through the discount table (take an extra 20%) off. Mentioned the cloth to my girlfriend. She found one that had been mismarked (with a seal on pricetag gun)…$20. (That was the price for a napkin, so that’s where that price came from.) Took it to a salesman who checked with the manager. THEY HONORED THE PRICE!!!

I have a stunning tablecloth…no napkins to match. I need 12 would buy 14 (2 extra for stains) THAT is not a bargain. Will use other napkins that work beautifully.

If your students haven’t purchased their desk lamps yet, they may be interested in this cool lamp. It’s got an I-pod docking station built in and comes in purple, hot pink, black, bright blue, etc. It was on sale for $49 at my local Toys R Us. Nieman Marcus has them for $79. It’s a very good quality lamp.

^^Just to give everyone a “heads up”, this desk lamp uses a haologen bulb. Many residence halls do not allow halogen bulbs.

ellebud, good for you! I do not think that I have ever seen a $450 tablecloth! It must be truly special.

^^ It is cream background and celadon green floral. I never thought that I would have one in my house either. My last big linen/napkin collection purchase: Went to Tahr-get with a friend and saw a tone on tone tablecloth. Bought two (when I put the dining and the kitchen table together) tableclothes, twenty napkings (16 to 18 service places, 2 for stains). All together: about $60 (on sale.) Note: SIL, who is rarely invited here (and a huge snob) actually turned over the napkin to see what brand it was. I cut out the label just to p***** her off. (Just the ones that I used that night, the rest are label intact.) Husband saw her do it, thought I was a genius because I knew what she was going to do.

Yep, $15-20 for a tablecloth is my normal price range. I never saw anyone trying to read the labels, but if they did, my shopping habits would not change.

This person would read my labels, my china…and she complained to my MIL that I bought designer purses. She inherited, I bought…and Tahrget has some really nice linens. (This one kind of scares me because it needs to be professionally washed, unless I want to play Martha Stewart.)

Thanks, northeast mom. No wonder it was such a good deal. It’s going back! It’s not worth the worry.

ellebud, splurge on having your beautiful cloth professionally laundered. It’s worth it. (I say this as someone who does her own housework and laundry but sends out her best cloths.)

^^You are right. I will. I can’t iron, I admit that I am not the best when it comes to ironing…I don’t iron, I burn. My d uses her straightening iron to make a crease in her pants. I just burn stuff.

Mom60—if you are still looking for a queen aerobed, Costco online has them this month for $85…

I got a really nice Max Studio sundress (regular $118) for a $30 at Marshalls. I NEVER would have spent $118 on it!!!

Picked up a skirt and blouse for D at the Limited yesterday for $32. Perfect for her summer program with the DA’s office and Mock Trial. I love the blouse ($10)–good color, nice fit, professional look. Reasonable selection of items if anyone needs a few working wardrobe items for themselves for their daughter. They do have 0’s and XS sizes. (FYI Final sale items can’t be returned.)

Received the “Silver Universal Retractable Touch Screen Stylus” from Overstock ($4.something) and think it’s a good value. Bought 2, one for us, one for Dad who wants to begin using his wife’s iTouch. Worked great for entering a new CC number into the iTouch here. Mixed reviews stem from the fact that people want to draw with a conductive stylus and this has a rubber tip. But that makes it good for picking out data.

Anne Taylor Loft sundress…my size, perfect fit…brand new…$12.99 at Goodwill. Not bad!!

Check your local Nordstrom Rack - our WA stores are running a sale, 25 percent off of already reduced clearance stuff. I picked up really cute Three Dots top for $15 and a pair of my favorite David Khan jeans for $30 (reg. $150). Not bad! Nordstrom is pre-selling their clearance merchandise as well.

^^Apologies for typos. I’m posting this from above 10,000 feet :D

Neiman Marcus is running a sale as well. 25% off all clearance items. While I would not call a $150 Tory Burch bag a bargain, it was still a better deal than paying $250 for the same bag at Nordy’s.

The Sears in my area is running 40% off clearance sale prices. I picked up a sweater set (orig. price was $62) for 10.79.

Also with a coupon Old Navy is selling flip flops for $1 (limit is 5 pairs). I believe that I was emailed this coupon. This is for today only.

Here is a link for perhaps some free items in exchange for giving your name, address and email address. First 10,000 people are supposed to receive the items (ziplocs, and storage containers). Here it is:

Also, Staple’s flyer is showing back to school sales, beginning this Sunday.
