Your Good Buy Of The Day (Part 1)

Staples is selling 500 sheet packs of printer paper for $4.99 each, with a $4.98 online rebate - you can get two for .02. I think the sale is today through Wednesday only. They had a few other very good deals - dollar items like shipping tape and .25 pack of highlighters.

Yes, that was a good buy along with the 1 cent bic pens, 1.00 Ticonderoga pencils and tape, 2.00 dry-erase board (daughter just asked for one)
Also BB&B store had a mini drying rack for 19.99, I had a 5.00 off coupon and a 20% off one, so that worked out well.

Yes, I have stopped in once each week for the last 2 weeks to pick up their back to school deals. I am stopping tomorrow and then I’ll need to organized the back to school supplies. My main focus were those expensive textbooks!!! We have 2 left to purchase (one special order through the school’s bookstore and I have no idea what that means and why, and one class’s books are still not listed on the bookstore’s website). Textbooks for this semester are VERY pricey because the 2 most expensive texts just came out with new editions!! I did best buying both of them, believe it or not, through Amazon with prime free shipping.

Hopefully next semester, you both can do better. It’s hard with the new editions. My son had a couple of teachers tell them one semester, 5th editon is best but if you can get 4th for 1/2 the price, just the pages are numbered differently and you’ll have to check with me about assignments. (that was somewhat enlightening) When you are new though, it’s different.
My D’s wont find out books for another week, and then we will start comparing prices.

My son emailed a few professors to find out what books they will be using (the bookstore has since posted this information, but had not at the time my son sent the emails. We did not know that they would be posted). One professor that was using a new edition suggested renting the book rather purchasing. This professor told him that the new edition would be costly. We decided to purchase all of the books. I feel that if he’d like to sell them he’ll get enough money back to making it cost a similar amount as if he had rented it. If he wants to hold onto them, he can.

I found a lot cold remedies and lip balm 75% off today at CVS. Exp. dates are next summer for the cold remedies and Airborne, so 11-13 mos. from now. I found Airborne powder packets only for 1.94 (package of 8), beeswax lip balm 1.07 for a 2 pack, lip balm with sunscreen was .44 and another type was .59 each. Vicks Nyquil was 1.24 for a 10 pack, and CVS non-drowsy daytime cold/flu relief was 1.12 for 20 softgels.

It might be handy to buy now and send to college with your sons and/or daughters too.

I want to add that these items were not on the clearance shelf in the CVS that I shopped in. These items were hanging with cold and lip balm sections and the items on clearance were clearly marked with a sign stating that they were 75% off.

I’m on my way to CVS
we use that generic nyquil stuff like it’s candy.

Thanks for the heads up about CVS. I will go by there after work today.

Just got back from CVS
wow. I also got the beeswax lip balm
two packages with two in each for $1.07 each. Then I got two blistex moist
62 cents each. I didn’t see any dayquil BUT I did get Tylenol Sinus Congestion & Pain 48 gels for $2.82 each box (got two boxes
saved $8.47 per box).

Expirations dates on my Tylenol stuff
March 2011.

Thanks for the tip.

Oh
and if you have little kids
look across the aisle. The children’s triaminic etc were also 75% off.

I spent a total of $9.02 and that is less than what one box of the Tylenol Sinus would have cost me!!

And my husband says I shouldn’t read CC anymore!!

Great!

I went to another CVS (There are 3 of them within just a couple of miles from my home). I went there looking for more Airborne, which had flown off all the shelves so I got the last 2 boxes. The lip balm there was NOT on sale. I asked a salesperson about why the CVS “down the road” has it marked at 75% off. Apparently, each CVS marks down what is not selling. If one store is selling enough of this product, it is not reduced. In the meantime I did pick up a generic vapor rub, which one member of my family likes to use when ill. This is normally 9.99 and I paid for 2.49 for it today. I also bought a few more of the beeswax lip balms for 1.07 (the pack of 2) after I saw my other CVS selling it for 4.29!

Car fill-up for $0.71/gallon, thanks to the grocery store/Sunoco savings program!

Heads up, in terms of buying over-the-counter meds, contact lens solution, first-aid supplies, etc:

After Dec, 31 of this year, you will no longer be able to be reimbursed for these items via the pre-tax dollars in Flexible Spending Accounts or HSAs.

So be sure to do plenty of stocking up before the end of the year.

Also, IMHO you don’t need to be overly concerned about rigidly following expiration dates on many items. Things like ibuprofen, acetaminophen, cold or allergy tablets, bandaids, peroxide, etc are going to be fine for quite awhile, as long as they have been stored at reasonable temperatures.

northeastmom, thanks SOOO much for the heads-up on that backpack deal at Staples (ended yesterday) – daughter got a $90 SwissGear backpack for free (except maybe for the sales tax) - you get a rebate for the full purchase price in the form of a Staples gift card. It will take a few weeks for the gift card to get here.

I think that backpack was one of the ones that was highly recommended here on another thread. WOOT!

SUCH a deal – A Good Buy of the Year, not just of the day!!

MomCat2, you’re welcome! So glad that you are able to “cash in” on that deal!

I buy clothing often at the end of the season (we don’t mind wearing last year’s fashion when it comes to classic clothing). I stopped at Macys and in the men’s department I picked up:

solid t-shirts-reg. price is 9.98 for 3.19!
solid collared polo shirts-reg. price is 19.98 and I either paid 7.50 or $8 per shirt (don’t recall)!

I expected to pay 5.99 on the t-shirts before my 20% off coupon. They ended up being less than that when they scanned, so when I saw that I was paying 3.19 (after coupon, of course), I went back to pick up a few more of them!

Did not have time to look in other departments.

We did well at Staples, got some 1 cent notebooks for D and some for charity. She found a nice computer bag for 30.00 with a 5.00 coupon and a 5.00 write-on board, down from 15.00 (it was a larger one)
We also found some great deals at CVS, a Tylenol sinus product was discontinued that she likes a lot and she got 3 for the price of 1 (and not expired!) We also found cortisone creme on clearance and some first aid items.
Target had the butterfly chairs we had been putting off (29.00 everywhere, I thought that was high) on sale for 18.00 so we got one of those also.

Between Staples and Office Depot we picked up 8 reams of paper for less than $5. Staples also had the 1 cent notebooks, RSVP pens for $1 (love those), fine tip dry erase markers in a 4 pk for $1. Misc additional school supplies, the library is doing a school supply drive.
Thanks for the tip on the butterfly chairs, Debruns. DD and I may head over there to pick one up
she’s been asking for one for forever

Yes the corduroy ones were nice and comfy for 18.00 and they had some for a few more dollars that came with a carry case.

Macy’s has some really good deals on home & bed stuff this time of year. At the beginning of fall semester last year I picked up two Ralph Lauren pillow for $20, I think. I’ll definitely be checking next week.

I got packs of notebook paper @ $.01 apiece. They let me buy 12, which I donated to a school. I also bought 6 notebooks @ $.05 apiece and Crayola felt pen sets @ $1 apiece. I bought two reams of paper @ $1 apiece. I also bought some plain portfolios @ $.05 apiece for a conference we’re having next month. Amazing prices!

The office/school supplies were from Office Max & Office Depot (we don’t have any Staples in our state).
