Your Good Buy Of The Day (Part 1)

Wow, that’s really bad news.

I have a large supply of $5.00 off and 20% off BBB coupons. Our stores in NJ have always accepted them expired and as many of the 20% off coupons as I have items to match them with.
I will have to see what the story is…hope it hasn’t changed.

Oh brother…and I still have a BBB coupon for 20% off the ENTIRE purchase. I had two of those. Glad I already used the (expired) one for the wedding present I bought…8 place settings of everyday dishes and two sets of luncheon plates. I would have needed 10 coupons!! (I saved a BUNDLE on that gift).

Oh wow… I, too, have a ton of BBB coupons - some 20% off, some $5 off purchase over $15.

This would not be good.

I’m not sure if the policy for expired coupons is changing at our store, but I had a very good return experience there today. I bought a Dyson vacuum there about a year ago which has been having some problems with the suction. The place you have to go for their warranty work is not near me and I happened to mention the issue when I was at BBB last week. The customer service rep told me to just bring the vacuum in and they would give me a brand new one. They didn’t even ask for a receipt or my credit card to verify that I’d bought it there or to see when the purchase was made.

I believe the 20% your entire purchase is the one coupon BB&B requires the date to be current; at least the few times I have tried to use an expired one I was not able.

I’ve never seen a 20% off your ENTIRE PURCHASE coupon!
but, since our store always allowed numerous 20% each item coupons, and I have literally dozens of those, it’s kind of the same thing.
I must spend enough that I’m targeted for mailings that include the coupons.

Interesting…it seems that practices in the stores vary by location.

thumper- that wedding gift sounds great. wasn’t it fun assembling all the pieces AND getting a deal at the same time?

They do offer a 20% off your entire purchase, but I have only received those once or twice a year; it was great when my son moved to his first home! While we can also use multiple coupons per purchase, when you are buying everything for a first home, it takes a lot of coupons. I happen to have a ton, but I sure do have a lot more since I only had to use one for a huge purchase.

We seem to get BBBY coupons in the mail constantly, my DW has a big pile of them as well.

And I suspect this is the problem - so many people have big piles of these coupons, so they are trying to flush out the old ones and reduce redemptions. Whether that helps or hurts their bottom line, that remains to be seen.

Anyone needs nice jeans? I just got an email from BlueFly: some styles are on sale for $49.99, including Current/Elliott, William Rast, James Jeans, and others (retail up to $200)!

I went back to BBB since I had a big order yesterday (in addition to exchanging my one year old vacuum) and didn’t have my coupons with me. Our store is still extremely lenient with allowing expired coupons - the manager told me they have no plans to discontinue that in the near future. Not only that, they let you use the five or ten dollar off coupons (including expired ones) PER item under $20, rather than one per order. It’s surprising that the policies aren’t more consistent from store to store.

Well rated GE over-the-range micro-hood at HD for $148. Very well appointed and with free delivery. (Not that you really need it for this item). HD is having a huge sale on all large appliances until the 11/29. I never thought of HD as a place to look for large appliances, but now I do.

D and I just bought a pair of cute Nine West boots we had seen in the store at DSW. At the store, they were $79.99. Just ordered online using coupon code “BOOTS” for 30% off and then code “SHIPR” for free shipping - plus since she had ordered from them before she got an additional $5 off!

So she ended up with $80 boots (retail $129) for about $50 and mine were $55! Yeah, coupon codes!!!

The website lets you enter more than one code, just one at a time. :)

For anyone doing online shopping tomorrow you might want to check out ebates. If you PM me I can send a link…it is basically a cash back site. You buy stuff online direct from the retailer and ebates sends you a check quarterly with a percentage back. I just bought coffee for my machine with 6% back, bought contact lenses with 10% back and made a hotel reservation through Orbitz with 5% back. Ebates gets some cut from the retailer because your purchase from the retailer comes from an ebates click thru.

Went to Coldwater Creek because they are having a four day sale on all denims for $39.95 - also today only additional 20% off. I had a local coupon for $20 off $80 and they let me use it for two pairs so got them for $63. I still have my Groupon too!

We need a car for a week when we go visit my parents over Christmas. I checked out the rate around EWR and everything was over $500 (even just for an economy car). I went on Priceline and put in a bid for $300, and it was accepted. They said the lowest price for a full size car was $750.

My rule of thumb is to bid 40% below.

Oldfort, take a chance and bid even lower next time. You can only bid once every 24 hrs., but if you start doing it ahead of time, you can start even lower than the 40% and then go higher if necessary. I just stayed in a hotel that was $144/night for $32/night. Thank you priceline.

Wow!! I have gone below 50% and being rejected for car rental. I haven’t tried it with hotels because I am afraid…

Another trick is to look on Hotwire, see what the prices are, and bid on Priceline 20% below hotwire’s prices. Personally, I’ve found better deals by going to flyer talk-- a great forum on travel like cc is for colleges, and go to their auto rental posts [Car Rental Programs/Partners - FlyerTalk Forums](Car Rental Programs and Ride Services - FlyerTalk Forums) lots of good codes there that can be used for great deals. I’ve also found that by going to the major rental companies through the USAA website gets really good deals!! I’ve been able to get GREAT rates in many major cities.

I have been happy with just buying the Hotwire hotels at the prices they quote, especially when they guarantee a non-smoking property and the bedding we request so there’s no surprises that will make us utterly miserable.

Was able to book my own hotel for a convention–it was 3rd night free so the average price for the 3 nights was about $125 + taxes vs. the hotel special convention rate of over $250/night. I apologized to the conference organizers but told them I just couldn’t afford their rates for our poor non-profit, especially since I was staying 6 nights. They were understanding.

jym626, Thanks for the tip on car rental through USAA. S1 is in the Navy and does all his banking/insurance with USAA. He’s flying home for Christmas and will need a rental car when he gets here.

I’ll have to say my latest good buy was our Christmas tree. While lots of families were shopping at the fancy tree lot with twinkling lights, hot chocolate and piped in Christmas music where the trees cost $50-$75, DH and I were across the street digging through the trees stacked up against the side of the grocery store. Every tree at the grocery store cost $29.95.
I know, I know…an artificial tree would be cheapest in the long run but DH is a diehard for the real Frasier Fir tree.
