Went to our local resell shop today. Found 2 brand new Whirlpool water/ice filters for $10. They are $50 each on Amazon.
woohoo!
Bonus—> funds go to help the local women’s shelter.
Miss seeing good buys on this thread!!! Isn’t anyone shopping?!!
I got a sweater from Nordstrom in January for $100.
It went on sale and I haven’t worn it, so I ordered it on-line and will return original.
I also got 2 additional sweaters at half price.
Not shopping, but yesterday I renewed the print San Diego paper at the same reduced price as the last year’s negotiation instead of 20% over the full previous price. So $100 less than the bill said and it only took me getting the rep to offer lower rates twice.
And the Seattle Times keeps letting me get the digital edition for $5 every three months. They didn’t even try to bargain.
I got my bill for two months of newspaper subscription for $125. I called and got the “special” of $92 for three months.
Note to self…never pay the newspaper renewal until you all first!
Yikes!!! My under $20 a month digital subscription to the local paper sounds like a giant bargain!
Our local Costco must have gotten some of the clothing clearance from other stores. DD and I bought several pairs of knit pants for under $10 a pair. There were also women’s long down coats (not terribly puffy) for $10 (size L only), various shirts for $7 or so, and more. The store also had 32" TVs for $99, and larger ones for $199. (W’ville, for those in the area.)
Digital would be about the same here….if we only got digital. We get paper editions. And we like them.
I’m paying $247 for a year of daily paper delivery and digital access to the San Diego Union Tribune. They wanted to charge $346 (last year they wanted to charge $291) so I think it’s a bargain, although it was under $100 a few years back. I get antsy if I don’t have a physical newspaper with breakfast.
I’m paying $5 every three months for my digital Seattle Times subscription. I have to call and pretend to cancel every quarter, explaining that I only subscribe because of the bargain basement rate. Now that really is a bargain!
I have for the last few years been negotiating the renewal rate for our newspaper delivery (7 days/week) with the digital access . I’ve gotten the paper delivered daily for well over 30 years, and they claim they offer a significant discount to long term subscribers, but if I say no, cancel, they call me back with a better rate. I’ve had a lot of issues with delivery (or rather delivery hold) when we go out of town. Its been an ongoing problem. The neighbors bring it in, and the customer service managers say they’ve spoken to the manager of the delivery company (contracted out) but it persists. I email customer service, tell them it happened again, and they courtesy extend my subscription. So I believe I’ve had the subscription extended at least 3 months, if not more, and I’ve negotiated an annual rate of (this is off the top of my head) of probably less than $200.
What’s funny is that this is for the big metropolitan paper. There is a small city paper, which is maybe only occasionally of interest for some very local stuff, but its much more expensive so thats a hard no!
We have an excellent delivery person, almost never misses a paper. On rare occasions my husband doesn’t get his WSJ, but I think that’s because it doesn’t come in to the delivery person. I passed on a compliment while I had customer service on the phone.
I wish we didn’t have to play these games; go through the same song and dance with Cox cable every year.
There is no such thing as a “good buy of the day” for cable.
My good buy for cable - dropped it and got YouTube TV.
I got the cable company to essentially give me a month for free. I’ll take it.
We quit cable…that was our good buy. One free month would never have made a difference. But every Penny counts so one free month is better than nothing! We get way better reception…and really can watch just about anything we want to watch ala carte via Sling.
Don’t miss the cable or the cable bill one bit.
We spend less than $20 a month on TV channels…and that’s only when we feel like purchasing them. That’s a good deal of the day!
Before Omicron and the need for the good masks, I had posted a link to my favorite cloth masks at Vera Bradley.
Now VB seems to be predicting an end to the need for masking - my favorite cloth masks are only $2 now! Cute fabrics, too. Guess I don’t need any.

I know folks who wear cloth masks over surgical or KN95 masks. So if you plan to wear masks for any reason…get a few fabrics you like!
I got a bunch of Vera masks as stocking stuffers for my family when they were $2 back in December.
Lilly Pulitzer has had their cloth masks significantly discounted, too.
Have read that wearing n95 or similar with 2nd mask can provide LESS protection than just a n95 alone. Something about air pattens created are different. This was in a memo that the med center sent to all its staff.
I think I will just stick with the kf94 masks that are comfortable and provide a pretty comfortable fit.
