Your Opinion - Rank The Publics

Wisconsin is 35% OOS. Most come from Ill, Minn, NY, Cal, NJ, Mass. Many internationals.

Berkeley
UMichigan
UVA
UNC-Chapel Hill
UCLA
W&M
UI-Urbana-Champaign
GA Tech

Not by my preference...just by what I think the best schools are.

Penn State ranked #48th in the NATION.

Better than, TEXAS and OHIO STATE, Maryland, Pitt and Florida.

Plus as I said, once I am there, it will most definetly SKY-ROCKET up a few places, Top 40 maybe????

Penn State's peer assessment rating is also 3 tenths of a point lower than Texas'.
Michigan has 57% for all of Michigan, and 33% out of state
that doesn't add up to 100%

and the VA schools are supposed to have a 2/3, 1/3 split.

and for kfc...

I've met people from all over the country, and internationals. Seems the out of states that are the most common are from the northeast, but that's also where population is concentrated.

Yeah Im surprised Penn State seems as being treated as a second rate public.....but anyways why should we rank? most of us will be biased anyways lol I think we should just take one of the earlier posts with all the good publics

that doesn't add up to 100%

The remaining 10% is internationals.

Michigan's geographic distributions:

UNDERGRADUATE:
65% Michigan
30% Other states (top 4 states are Illinois, New York, California and Texas)
5% international

GRADUATE:
25% Michigan
50% Other states
25% international

TOTAL:
50% Michigan
38% Other States
12% international

Notice the lack of Ohio from that list. :)

How would everyone rank the undergrad poly sci programs for publics?

Not that I'm biased, but I've spent a bit of time abroad and out of the publics people have only heard of Berkeley and UCLA. I believe they've heard of Berkeley through THES rankings (which actually ranked Berkeley above Oxbridge last year)--which is mainly based on research, and they've heard of UCLA through Hollywood.

But, here's my list, trying to leave the bias out eh:

1) Berkeley
2) U Michigan, Ann Arbor
3) UVA
4) UCLA
5) No idea. I haven't heard of most of the list.

impossible to do on the poli sci comment on the undergraduate level.

I would argue that: UCB, Michigan, UVA, Wisconsin, UCSD have some of the strongest public programs.

Top Political Science programs at Public Universities:

1 University of Michigan-Ann Arbor

2 University of California-Berkeley

3 University of California-Los Angeles

4 University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill

5 University of Wisconsin-Madison

6 University of California-San Diego

7 Michigan State University-East Lansing

8 Ohio State University-Columbus

9 University of Minnesota-Twin Cities

This comment is going to enfuriate many Californians but I think beyond UC and UCLA, your schools are not that special, at least not highly regarded. If someone told me they went to UC-Davis, I would not think much of them and would compare that to someone going to UW-Eau Claire in Wisconsin, for instance. Just my opinion. People whose lists have 4 or 5 UC schools on the top 10 are very very biased and should know that here in the midwest, we don't care at all about your UC's besides Berkeley and UCLA.

nah, i dont think californians would be infuriated. its a subjective ranking. Where you grew up and your realities must take part in it.

For Political Science, I would rank the following:

Cal, UMich

UCSD, UCLA

Ohio, U-Wisc, UNC

how do they rank in undergrad business (especially finance)? i've already seen the us news ranking, but how about some of your own informed opinions? thanks

pretty stupid to rank, i doubt there is much difference between the departments at the undergrad level. Ranking wise, the best overall school wins.

Berkeley

Umich

UVA

UCLA

Here is what I think for overall college experience and prestige:

1 Michigan
2 UCLA
3 UNC
4 Illinois
5 UC-Berkeley
6 Virginia
7 Wisconsin
8 G-Tech
9 Texas
10 Washington
11 Pitt
12 Purdue
13 Penn St.
14 Maryland
15 UC-Irvine
16 Florida
17 Ohio State
18 Rutgers
19 UC- Santa Barbara
20 Arizona

Ok ok, we all seem to have a little bias towards our home states but we're all entitled to our opinons.
