Your Schedule for the first Semester ? Post here

that's funny, because I got a 5 on the physics C and 3 on the Calc BC, and I'm usually much better at math than at physics.

anyway, I'm taking math 1a, chem 1a, history 5, engin 92 sem

That's really weird to me .

Lefay8: Is the scholarship from Malaysia? (I just got back from Johor Bahru and Singapore two weeks ago).

eiffel - yeah, its a msian public service department scholarship. government pays ALL my fees woohooooooooo!!

cool...i was in spore the week before. u were visiting family?

wow, Malaysia is so rich !!!
I'm so jealous, haha ...
just kidding.

speaking of testing out, is anyone who tested out of both semesters of Reading and Comprehension R1b requirement taking the second half/semester anyways? or just not taking either half? (wondering if i should take the second half anyways to adjust to college writing, but i don't want to take it if it's not that helpful)

hmmm...I never really considered taking it after testing out...but you have a good point.

did you read post #13 on this thread (eiffel's)?

eiffel's post pushes me a little more towards not taking it, but i'm still not sure as to whether or not taking the second half would be useful. after testing out, i wasn't very disposed to taking the second half in the first place (because i hate writing essays), but i'm considering taking it if it's extremely helpful. i wonder who eiffel talked to as far as advisors go, because i called the letters and sciences advising office today, and the person who i spoke to wasn't very helpful at all. he said he couldn't tell me whether taking the class would be useful because that was an opinion question, and they don't conduct surveys to see what most students in this situation do. :( i think i may just stick with it on my schedule until i get there, then drop it after i talk to someone who can help me, lol :)

lol, I must say, that L&S advisor sounds rather amusing...an "opinion question".

Anyway, dangel, did you use the AP Lit test to test out? Because less than 10% get a 5 on it (<a href="http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/ap/english_lit/dist.html?englit)%5B/url%5D">http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/ap/english_lit/dist.html?englit)</a>, so I would think your writing must be decent ;). I used my IB Eng., I got a 4 on AP Lit.

Eiffel's post kind of puts it into perspective for me, especially:
Students taking the AP English Language or Eng Composition and do well on them tend to be able to write decently and further improvement occurs through practice in other classes.
I figure that I can work on my writing as I go along, and there are always resources to help such as the the Student Learning Center (<a href="http://slc.berkeley.edu/%5B/url%5D">http://slc.berkeley.edu/</a>, click on the "Writing" link for info on their program), just in case I start to crash and burn...hopefully not though.

Much luck :)

lol geminihop, yes i did use the AP English Lit to test out of it, but i presume the AP graders just had a little too much to drink by the time they got to my test ;)

i agree with dangel... graders must've been asleep at the wheel when they got to my test lol, i seriously don't think i deserve the grade i got for what i remember writing.

Dangel4545: My advisor was Dawn S. She's amazing and she's really helpful. She put things in perspective for me. I got a 5 on the AP Eng Lang and Comp and thus I test out of R1A. I was going to retake it, but she said it's not necessary. AP English Lang and Comp or Lit and Comp tend to be good factors in measuring a students writing ability. And she said the fact that I managed to earn an A- at UCLA for a regular English class and an A in a poli sci class demonstrates that I'm able to write at a college level already.

Lefay: Yes I was visiting family.

i have an easy schedule.....

physics 7a 4 units
math 1b 4 units
chemistry 4a 4 units
chemistry c96 1 unit

total 13 units.......minimum requirement.......

dusty, tell us in a few weeks how easy your schedule turns out :)

we'll see . . .

yeah haha, 2 sciences plus the infamous killer math class

That's really sweet, I wish I could have all Science classes. Have to wait until upper division

I like a little variety in my life...at least for my first semester :)

I have a crappy schedule coz I realized at the last minute a time conflict between my nuc eng and mat sci class. Stupid online schedule. So now it's:

Chem 104A
Chem 120A
Nuc Eng 101
Phys 137A
Chem 143

16 units total but I'm definitely dropping either chem 104a or 120a to give me 13 units for the semester. I'm so glad all my classes are sciences classes but I'm so getting slaughtered during finals :(

question for the music people:

do you have to take music 141 in order to audition for the university orchestra? originally I thought you could just audition, but now it looks like you have to sign up for the class too

Here is mine after all the changes:
-Enrolled:
Math 53
Physics H7A
French I
Eng92(1 unit)
-Wailisted
R1A college writing pos.5 (9 enrolled, 14 limit)
