Your son has applied letter. Does everyone get one?

Today I received a letter informing me that my son had applied to Cornell (not sure why they think I would not know). It was a really nice letter offering help with submitting any missing documents as well as the financial aid application. I have not received any letter like this from any other college. Is this just customary at Cornell?

I have never heard of it @wilmacr . I think at best it’s a great sign for your son, and at worst, it’s just a nice piece of mail. Maybe others will know if it’s significant.

Out of curiosity, is your son first generation? I have never heard of it either. I am wondering if they are reaching out to certain segment of applicants to help them with the application process.

I received the letter as well. Since the last paragraph stated, “the Diversity Outreach teach is available…” I assume it is a targeted form letter for URM families, but still a form letter nonetheless. I wouldn’t read anything more into it.

I received a letter as well!

My parents also got a letter. They encouraged us to contact the Diversity Outreach Team if we needed help submitting my Cornell application or answering any questions. I also wonder if it’s a targeted letter since I’m a URM.
