I was pretty set on living in the Yulee area for Summer B/Fall/Spring but now I am reading about the Murphree area it also seems good. I just don’t know which one I would prefer. Which has the better location in relation to classes, entertainment, etc? Do they have any large differences I should know about?
I took my D to a Florida Days event last week and this is what I remember hearing (meaning take this with a gain of salt).
Mallory Hall (which is in Yulee) is mainly Summer B students. They start there in Summer and stay for Fall/Spring. Reid is mostly Fine Arts students and it is rare to see a Freshman in Cypress. Not sure of Yulee itself.
Murphee is a popular area and usually taken by returning students so it is unlikely to be available to Freshman.
My D recently changed to Summer B. She was given two housing options 1) One contract for Summer/Fall/Spring and she would keep the same room for the entire time or 2) keep her existing Fall/Spring contract and add a second contract for Summer only. She would spend Summer in Cypress, Infinity or Keys then move to a traditional dorm for Fall/Spring. She took Option 2 since she already has a roommate for Fall/Spring. We were told by Housing that the second option was only offered to Fall admits that already had a Fall contract, then changed their start term to Summer.
Either way they made it sound like her summer housing would be assigned and she would not have an option to pick the dorm.
Floridaball, are you able to select Murphee as a preference for Summer?
@CaucAsianDad Buckman and Thomas, both in the Murphree area, are available for my Summer B/Fall/Spring contract.
@Floridaball
We did not get to see those dorms. We saw Mallory in Yulee, the RA mentioned it is used for incoming Summer B freshman. IMHO, it would not be hard to improve on Mallory but my D thought it was clean and livable.
