You are fondly mentioned in a downward spiralling thread on the USAFA board, called "Evaluate My Senario Please"

As you can see "confusion" is everywhere...

You are fondly mentioned in a downward spiralling thread on the USAFA board, called "Evaluate My Senario Please"

As you can see "confusion" is everywhere...

Oh, you're kidding me!

ETA: LOL! :D

My, my, my! What an interesting web we weave!

Well, no one need worry. If that kid is who he says he is, he will get neither a nomination nor an appointment, so let not your heart be troubled.

I'm kinda tickled that I'd be mentioned, though. :o

Well, apologies have been made there...thus defusing a "Confused" situation. You do seem to be the means of agumentative comparison around here...I guess Confused deserves some credit for bringing out the debating talents of this board, lol.

You really think that was him?

No, just everyone was starting to act like it was someone like him. Just a misunderstanding/miscommunication, I think. Then, the tempers flaired.

Well, you have to admit he didn't present himself very well...

thats an understatement.

It's interesting how everyone is ragging on that kid (if he is legit) for trying to work his way around the process.

I got some news...and it may not be too new to some. The nomination process can be a very political process, do not think that there have not been a LARGE portion of Midshipmen and Cadets who have been accpeted to and completed these academies.

Heck, if you want to go, and you got the in with someone, you'd be a moron not to use that card. Don't give me all this ethical BS, when it comes down to it, you got to look for out numero uno and use your resources.

So to be blunt, the people who feel that it is cheating, suck it up and move on, maybe make some of your own contacts. Don't be jealous.

As I have said before: Politics, whether you like it or not, is a part of life.
Use every contact you have! At the end of the day, if you are not qualified, even good contacts will not get you in. Although, GREAT contacts might. [See J. McCain's son.] You have to have to be base qualified. THEN, use every card you have.

Its a cruel world . . .

I don't think that people got turned off by the idea of using whatever pull he might have to help, but rather because the impression was clearly left that he thought the pull would be enough. THAT is REALLY insulting to those who have gone through the process and EARNED their nominations and appointments.

Bill is right. You have to be qualified, then use every weapon at your disposal. EVERYONE who LEGITIMATELY applies does that.

Plus the fact that he basically came on and bragged about it. Sure, it's fine to use all your tools, but 1 speak softly and 2 don't think that'll carry you through.

Toolbox is what I say.

Hm...

When I read his post, my first thoughts were not, "What?! He's trying to get an easy nomination!" I thought, "Okay, he just wants to know who can get a nomination from this guy, however poorly written. After all, most people would like to have an interview with someone they're comfortable speaking with. I think he just needs to read up a bit more on the service academies, though...and learn something about a writer's connotation, denotation, tone, attitude, and grammar."

MANY people posting herein could take a lesson in "connotation, denotation, tone, attitude and grammar."

...and reading. ;)

The internet really is a double-edged sword. Since there is NO way to capture body language, tone of voice, etc., and since forums generally take the overall tone of a conversation rather than an essay, it is far too easy for misunderstandings to occur.

It's not always the writer's fault, either. All too often, it is whatever is rattling around in the reader's mind that taints the words on the screen. No one is immune from either syndrome.

Welcome to the brave new world. :/

Correct.
Then, if I remember accurately, his responses simply degenerated . . .
As was pointed out, he could have simply said "thank you" or similar and walked away. Instead, there seems to be a need to have the "last word" [Am I guilty of this now?] on everything.
