Best VT Dorms

I am applying for housing this year as a freshman and I was wondering which residence houses are sociable and in good condition. Also those that are close to dining halls, the gyms and classes.

Well …. the most social dorm is considered Pritchard and it was renovated in past few years. But still no AC (although they say AC is only an issue a few weeks a year).

But …. social = pretty much a party dorm.

So you have to decide - do you want a social party dorm or bring it down a notch.

here is a start

My DS is a freshman and lives in WAJ. It’s very nice and centrally located. He’s met a lot of people through the residential college program, but doesn’t spend a whole lot of time doing those activities at this point. He does spend a fair amount of time hanging with friends at Pritchard…

I think equating “social” with “party dorm” is both inaccurate and misleading. Pritchard is social by nature due to the sheer number of students in the building, and the fact that it is a traditional style residence hall. You would literally have to try not to meet new people (read: close your door at all hours of the day). Living in one of the smaller 3 floor residence halls doesn’t translate to no partying, believe me.

I agree with @ShenVal18. Beyond evaluating differences based on preference for suite vs. hall or whether there is AC or Not, there is not a lot to be gained by comparing dorms based on reputation, levels of socialness or what have you. This time next year, you will see posts about kids in every dorm who are having trouble finding a social group and posts about kids in every dorm who thriving socially. Its about how the kids engage with the community around them, not something inherent about any specific dorm, that makes the difference.
