One thing to add: Many colleges that aren’t on this list are still taking apps with the exception of more selective colleges. No downside to visiting a school’s website to see if they are still accepting apps , checking in the common app and/or picking up the phone and calling if there is a college a student is potentially interested in for Fall.
The list offers all sorts of schools-urban, rural, big, small, public, private-there is something for everyone.
Notable add today: UNC Charlotte.
Forgot to mention yesterday BU is on the list as still accepting transfers (Housing and FA available). I guess overenrollment is not a problem!
Other notables-Chapman, Sewanee
Some schools on the list that caught my eye today:
College of Charleston
U Dayton
U Kentucky
U Mass Lowell
Pace
Loyola New Orleans
Allegheny
Willamette
Hendrix
BU, Chapman, Florida Tech still taking transfers
Really interesting. Some just have spots for transfers including Boston U…and I’ve only looked through first two pages.
I don’t think it is surprising. Schools are often trying to fill spots left by upper division students who have dropped out or transferred. They don’t need (and aren’t guaranteed) freshman dorms, freshman classes, freshman advisers. Schools are trying to thread the needle.
Some additional schools with freshman openings:
Penn State
Saint Louis U
Mizzou
U Kentucky
West Virginia U
U Nebraska
Western Washington
UMBC
Seems like the NACAC list may not be exhaustive, if some colleges do not tell NACAC or NACAC does not look at them.
For example, Application Dates & Deadlines | CSU says that CSU Maritime Academy is still open for frosh applications for some majors, and a larger number of CSUs is still open for upper division transfer applications for some majors. But they are not on the NACAC list as of now.
Application Update - Undergraduate Admissions lists the PSU campuses still accepting frosh applications. Note that University Park is not among them.
Colleges control whether they list their openings/status on the NACAC site. And not all colleges are NACAC members…for example CSU Maritime is not listed as a NACAC member, although some other CSUs are.
Same as my earlier comment above, many more schools are still accepting apps than what one can see on this list…Jon Boeckenstedt tweeted the other day he estimates 90% of four year colleges are still accepting apps. If students are interested in pursuing other schools, they should call admissions and talk to them.
Upper division transfers are also less likely to change their majors, so admitting them by major can more easily fill an underutilized department to capacity without as much risk of overflowing it (in contrast, frosh can change majors or come in undecided, resulting in some unpredictability on the number of students in each major).
Open admission community colleges are always accepting applications, and that is probably the case for many minimally selective four year colleges. Of course, these forums focus mostly on the other 10%.
He was talking about four year colleges. I will edit my post.
Some of the schools that caught my eye today (that I didn’t see mentioned earlier) include:
• Beloit
• Florida Institute of Technology
• Juniata
• Marquette
• Stetson
• Susquehanna
• The Ohio State (realize only for transfers)
• U. of the South
• U. of the Pacific
• U. of Redlands
• Washington & Jefferson
• Whitman
• Whitworth
• Xavier (OH)
OSU only has room for xfers (not freshman) and maybe no housing for them.
Possibly some regional campuses (not Columbus) for frosh. Transfers to Columbus until 5/20, regionals to 7/14 (some regionals may allow applications after that).
Thanks @ucbalumnus and @Mwfan1921. I’ve edited my post to reflect that Ohio State is for transfers.
