for all the anxious freshman like me-the housing assignments are up on people finder!

I'm in Mims. Any upperclassmen have any comments about that dorm?

I'm in Hemingway. Any upperclassmen have any comments about that dorm? :)

Since it is located at the corner of vanderbilt, it is the farthest away from EVERYTHING. :(

I am in Vaughn

I lived in Dyer, and while each hall had its advantages, Hemingway was the best overall. It had drink and snack machines in the lobby..and a TV that worked! Of course, it was also right at the corner of 21st and West End, so it was most accessible to the outside world (but I've never heard of anything happening there).

I am in Barnard. I hope it's a single b/c that's what I requested. I am not anti-social I just like my space and I am a bit to neat freak. So looking forward to move-in day esp. now that I know the size of my dorm.

i'm in Vanderbilt Hall, which is pretty close to Stevenson center, where all my classes are.

what's vanderbilt hall like?

Do any upperclassmen know if there is any way to change from a single to a double. I found out my room assignment and although I requested a double, I got a single. Is there any way to change it?

There's not usually enough room for everyone who requested doubles to get a double. You're probably one of the unlucky ones who was left out.

How do you determine if your room is a single or a double?

It says either double or single near the top of the page

What about switching from a single to another single? I'm not entirely happy with my room assignment, and I've been led to believe that since more people request doubles and don't always get them, there may be some empty single rooms.

just curious, why don't you like your room assignment?

I definitely got a single but for some reason there is an (a) in the room number. I don't remember any suites in Vandy/Barnard so it's probably just some weird numbering system.

My daughter got her housing packet yesterday. She's happy to be in a single (Kissam/Currey) but neither of us can figure out when move-in starts for her dorm. The letter says the info will be in the move-in instructions; the instructions mention that move-in starts at 7:30 AM for some dorms, and 9:00 AM for others, but doesn't specify. Are we looking in the wrong place?

It sounds as if they've got the move-in process down to a science, however: no circling the block for 2 hours looking for a parking space, legal or otherwise. And no 50 y/o moms helping to lug refrigerators all over campus, either!

how is dyer hall? that's what i'm in.

Dyer's fine. I mean, all the Kissam buildings are clones of each other, really. I lived in Dyer. About the only thing I can say is that Dyer had the most boring lobby two years ago. Just a bunch of couches, tables, and a TV whose remote didn't work. I'm sure its might have changed by now.

frazzled, I think the earler time is when the "holding area" opens and the latter is the time they start up the conveyor belt. I'm not kidding; it's like an assembly from the moment you pick up your key at the holding area and they move to the dorm area where about five Move Crew people will take your furniture to your childs room in about five mintues. It's very efficient and kinda awe-inspiring, too.

heres what ive heard...

lupton is a 24/7 party

vandy/ barnard is the hotel

if you live in kissam quad its social suicide.

I feel dense for asking, but what does V/B is "the hotel" mean? That's where I am.

I've heard that about Kissam, too, but.. I dunno. People in Kissam might be, in general, more introverted or less into partying, but I still don't see how living in Kissam means they can't have normal social lives. Who knows, maybe it is somewhat true.. but it sucks that people are split into popularity groups before they even get on campus. (I'm not trying to pick a fight w/ you, iloveled; I'm just talking about the general notion that most people have)
