As you guys may know, the assignments for freshman housing were just released. Although I was personally assigned to the Hank Ingram House, I wanted to keep this thread open for comments about any house. So if you guys have any information (pros, cons, or helpful hints) about any of the 10 freshman houses, please be sure to leave your wisdom in this thread for all current and future freshman.

Dorms are dorms. They’re all on the Commons so they’re fairly nice and better than most other colleges offer, for sure. Unlike our friends at Duke, they all have air conditioning. All have pretty much the same setup too in terms of furniture. Rooms vary in size, not just between houses but also within houses. Ultimately, your room layout has no influence on your freshman experience!

Just wondering, where did they release the housing assignments? Was it through email?

It was on the meal plan website surprisingly. Not exactly the place you would think haha.

I’m in East House if I’m not mistaken. “system
Selection information has been automatically updated because student moved from NOT IN UNIV HOUSING to East House”. It seems smaller than the other dorms, imo

The houses on the Lawn at Peabody are closer to the main campus and well…they have a beautiful Lawn! designed by Stanford White!
Hank Ingram and Stambaugh are “all new” for good and for ill. Not much on the ill column, as they offer lovely room sizes and facilities and advantage access to the Commons dining facilities…except…well…they are part of a “new quad” that does not have a heritage lawn feel. Peabody quad is darn lovely, picturesque and has an advantage position to the library on the old Peabody campus which is a place my son did most of his studying freshman year and sometimes beyond. Both areas are “all good” and that is a fact.

S is in Memorial House. Thank you for the tip on where to look.

cheers to you new lucky sons and daughters of Vanderbilt U

When do we find out our roommates?

On August 1 (ish) you receive your actual room assignment and roommate’s contact info.

I have one question about the freshman dorm. Are all of the dorms coed?

Does anyone have a link to the floor plans of the houses? If so, that would be awesome.

In a recent parent email about move in it stated the student would receive their move in packet mid July but everywhere else says beginning of August so not sure but it won’t be too much longer either way to find out roommate assignment. My son will be living in Hank Ingram.

Elerry3–yes all of the dorms on the Commons are co-ed (but single sex by floor) and floor access is by key card only, if I’m not mistaken. Floors which have seminar rooms or laundry rooms will be accessible by key card by non-residents but there aren’t any bedrooms on those floors. (There are a couple upper class dorms which are entirely single sex; most upper class dorms, but not all, which are hall style are also single sex by floor. Suite/apt. style dorms like Towers or Morgan/Lewis are mixed by hall.)

To elaborate/paraphrase LHS, dorms with shared bathrooms are single sex floors. Dorms with private bathrooms are mixed gender floors.

Can you please send a link to the meal plan website you mentioned that shows the housing assigment? I can’t find it.
Thanks

Frzz, you can also see your housing assignment on your bill listed next to the housing charge.

This is a post on the Vandy 2017 Facebook page:

Vanderbilt Class of 2017 (Official) I believe the official housing assignments were recently mailed, so you should get yours soon. But check the link to the blog post for more info on how to find it online.

Has anyone received it?

^^
I spoke with housing on Monday and was told that the housing packages are scheduled to be sent on Monday, July 29. I think the Admissions office didn’t expect students to find their house assignments online through their meal plan or tuition invoice. I wonder if they did something different this year.

This happens every year. Your house is listed on your bill a few weeks before you receive the official notification.

The official room assignment and roommate info comes usually by Aug 1.
