1/2 AP Good Enough for Bio

I am planning on taking the Biology SAT II for college. I took normal bio freshmen year. I did well, but it was a freshmen class. I am now a senior and am going to me taking AP Bio. My plan was to take the SAT II Bio test in January, which is the last date I can take it for RD. Do you think 1/2 of a year of AP will be good enough, and if not how much prep should I do. Do i need to start prepping now, and would e or m be better in my situation? Thanks so much.

start learning the stuff that you will not cover in your AP bio class by the test date right now.

You probably need to start studying now. As for E or M, you should probably choose the one you're learning. At my school, we do Molecular stuff during the first half, so if your school is like that, take M. You do need to know both, though, so get a good review book and start studying out of that and out of your textbook, too.

Thanks..but I still need a bit more info. How far does the normal class cover in first term, and where should I start studying now. Also, I am using the Cambell Reese AP edition textbook. And if my class ends up doing Molecular first, can't I just study that and take the M SAT II. What do you mean, you need to know both? Thanks.

anyone....

I don't know whether they made the AP edition somewhat easier to read, but I remember that their bio 5th ed. book (Larry Mitchell, I think, was also a co-author) was torture. Get a review book and find out from your teacher what more you will need to study.

Thanks...I think I might attempt to take it is Dec instead of January, so that I won't have to worry about delayed scores. I am hopping that is not too soon. I have already read the first unit or 100 pages of the AP Edition, so I think if I just read A LOT I can do it...hopefully. Does anyone know if molecular is mainly first semsester, and ecology second, or the other way around?

For most schools I think that molecular is mainly first semester and ecology second; that's how my school does it. And reading from the textbook will definitely help you a lot. It really helped me, anyway.

Oh, and you need to know both E and M because the core section (60 questions) has both E and M questions. Only the last 20 questions can you choose E or M. The College Board website breaks down the percentages for you for both the E and M tests.

Good luck!

Thanks soo much. In addition to reading from the textbook, I am also going to get PR and Barron's, cause they are usually the best..I think?

Yeah, PR's practice tests are pretty accurate.

I started reading from about half way through my textbook so I can double up...at about page 600. I read 3 chapters already, diversity, prokaryotes, and protists. The stuff in these chapters is really specific and detailed...like each of the 15 different types of protists. I don't have a study guide yet, but I was looking throguh the practice test in the offical test and did not see anything that detailed. Do I need to know all that stuff. If not, does anyone know what I should be reading from my AP book in order to learn all of 2nd semester??
