1)Updating XC times 2)General questions

First of all, how do I update my best XC time for the UChicago and Johns Hopkins? I've already filled out the athlete questionnaire in July, but do I have to fill them out again? Would it be better to contact the coach directly?

Is a time of 16:54 mid season (on a golf course) a competitive time for the 5k for UChicago? I also go 4:33 in the 1600m and 9:53 in the 3200m. Uchicago is my top choice, and I hope I can get some help with admissions by the coach. I'll be applying EA.

Should I ever call/email the coach directly? For what purpose? Is it too late?

Thanks!

YES, email the coaches. You should be doing that already. Have they contacted you at all? We found that a lot of times the coaches never saw the athletic questionnaire. Send an introductory email telling the coach about you, your school work, grades, test scores, plans for college (major, etc.) and then your XC info. Start with 9th grade, show times, highlight some bigger meets, etc. then move along to now so they can see your progression. Keep in mind that if you are not a junior or older, they can’t answer back (Sept 1st of Junior year) but it looks like you are a senior.

Good advice from SteveMa. Don’t hesitate to call them either. My D found that was the best way to reach them. They are pretty busy right now, so don’t give up if you can’t make contact. Keep trying until you do.

Coaches will look at your track times for recruitment purposes, not XC. Reason being, course difficulty varies from course to course. Some courses are faster than others. But a track is a track.

Good luck!
