1 week to the May SAT!

Taking the SAT, my first time. I’m only a sophomore, so I’m slightly worried this will come back to haunt me if I do poorly, but I don’t think I will. Shooting for north of a 2200 - I got a 207 on the PSAT, and I’ve been using BB (2nd edition) for a month or two now. Only thing I’m worried about is my essay… I have a feeling it’s going to really drag my score down. Any advice for one week essay preparation?

^Essays really don’t matter that much. Shoot for a 9, because that’ll prob give you a a good writing score based on your MC. Getting a 10, 11, or 12 isn’t that big of a deal, because it isn’t as heavily weighed into your score.

The essays are so annoying. They pick the most abstract sentence they can find, and we have to elaborate two pages on it. Sure, I can give them to deluded essay they want and get a decent grade, but in reality, it’s just a waste of time.

^Wondering how long it will take that scrub to get banned.

I am taking it too! I wasn’t nervous at all (or had thought too much about the test, really) until today. I’m confident about CR & Writing (750+, I think) but Math is my area of weakness, and I want to get over a 700. I need to review geometry.

Hmm, looks like that guy posting spam earlier is gone. Please disregard my previous post, it was directed at the other guy not Kalookakoo.

I’m taking it as well. I’m just nervous for the math and essay. I’m getting close to 700 on the reading and writing without essay - so we’ll see.

I really did poorly on the SAT when I took it in January. I got a 1900 and I did poorly in math (my best subject), I am really hoping to break the double-millennium mark.

This May is my first one - I generally get 2000+ on PR dianostic and book tests, I’m wondering whether this will reflect true on the real SAT :P

Hopefully it isn’t too far out of reach, but I need to improve around 50-60 points in each subject area to pull off the 2000. Took it cold last time, so we’ll see if DH and Math practice can help me reach that plateau! Possibly more apprehension this time…

This is my second time. I really hope it’s my last but it probably won’t be.

Hoping for:
750 CR
700+ W
700 M (This looks pretty unlikely)

Actually, if I can just get all three sections to 700 I’ll be very happy.

Best of luck to everyone!!!

I’m taking the May SAT overseas :)

I’m hoping for at least 740 in each, but would prefer 760+ in math (best subject on practice tests - although surprisingly not at school!).

The only problem is that I have a late night on April 30 (well, I will be out later than normal, until 9pm for a school event). I hope that doesn’t affect performance!

I am taking it. Aiming for about 2350; breakdown is 800M, 800W, and 750 in CR (hopefully!). Well, for math I was naturally talented so I got 800 from day one. For writing I really just learnt the rules, though I knew most of them from before as well, and learnt strategies for the essay. Critical reading, however, is my weak point and I have no idea how to improve it. Right now I am stuck between 680 and 720 and am hoping, by some miracle, to pull myself up to a 750 by next Saturday. All I can really do now is hope to find some great strategy for the long passages in the next 2-3 days then slog 4-5 sections of critical reading everyday until D-day. Good luck all!

Try http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/750399-how-attack-sat-critical-reading-section-effectively.html</a>, JebarPolsky. I’m not endorsing it (haven’t tried it), but it looks interesting.

@JebarPolsky, how do you get 800W? I always make 3-4 errors, but I want to cut down to none. How can I do this? I know all the rules and stuff, its the paragraph corrections or dumb mistakes or super tough q’s that get me.

Well, basically I get 11 or 12 on the essay every time so I can make up to 2 mistakes on the multiple choice and still get a 800. Your question is your answer basically. You know everything so all you can do now is practice your ass off. I did a past paper today and got one wrong. After I did, I made a note to myself that “insight into” is grammatically correct. So, if I ever am posed with such a question again I will not make that mistake. Just do that and over time you should cut your mistakes down to none.

It will be my first test and I desperately want more than 700 in each part. Math is my biggest problem. I do great at it in school, but with the short timing in the SAT I always make around 7 careless mistakes…

@JebarPolsky, how do you write 11-12 essays (the scores)? Like, I need to get into that range, and then I too would have a shot at 800, since at times I can make 1 error or 2. Is there anything you did to get 11 to 12 consistently?

PM me if you’d like.

Aiming for 750+ in CR. (Currently a 630)
March I got 800s in Math and Writing.

I’m pretty pumped.

I got a 2120 in January, my first time: 700CR, 670M, 750W.
Aiming for 1400 for CR&M and 700 in math.
