1100 Words You Need to Know -Barons

I highly reccomend this book. It is very easy to read because on each page it take about 6 vocabulary words and put its into a short paragraph, giving you context clues and an idea of the definition. Then, below is a short matching exercise (word with definition). It may be a nice book, but did anyone have success with this book, or can anyone tell me how accurate it is?

This is great. Thanks a lot. Do you know where I can get it?

I'm not too sure, but you definately can get it in Barnes & Noble or through Amazon.com for about 10 bucks. Anyone have any opinions on it, success stories, or information about its accuracy?

i did the whole book last year. it's great. gets those words ingrained into you.

i wish it had more words tho. 1100 isn't enough for me.

Nice. Well, how did you do on the test?

Verbal SAT

i used this during the summer got up to week 19. I usually did one week per day. That is pretty easy. Its quite useful. I havent looked at it in ages though. There are also sayings, which may not be useful but are cool and add color to your writing and speech "sword of damocles".

"The method used in this book is the best technique I have ever seen. Each word is used in context, and you are encouraged to guess the meaning. Then you review the meaning using a matching test and a fill in the blank test. It is a stroke of brilliance that the words you have already learned are continually reviewed by being used over and over again in the following chapters. Each week has 4 lessons plus a review lesson, and a different storyline is used each week. These stories are of high interest and very clever. It is hard to put this book down; I have to restrain myself from going on to the next page! My only regret is that I didn't have this book 20 years ago!"
Pretty accurate review from Amazon.
I really dont see myself studying word lists or memorizing index cards. This method is infinitely better. I also read one book, a novel with a dictionary which I used to look up words I didnt know. I dont think that helped me much in terms of vocabulary. Reading in general though raises your verbal score.

Very accurate review. I think I am going to spend some time with this book. I see what you mean to do 1 week in 1 day. If you spend the reccommended time it would take something like 49 weeks. Alright.. Thanks!

i didn't even take the sats yet. lol

get the book already.

each week is 20 or so words. do a week every two days or something. 1 day to start and the 2nd to review.

I have the book. I am going to start today. Kenli, definately purchase the book.
