I haven't seen an analysis of which lists did the best for the October test - anyone know?

I swear by the book. This book is the best one for now. Incredible examples for my SAT essay. The way he constructs the sentences is simply amazing. The writer should be awarded some accolade for his great effort. Highly reccomend the book. I am getting 3 in one (Reading, Writing, Vocub).

DH was amazing on today's PSAT! Almost every word was a direct hit - demagogue, deft, supercilious, belie and on and on. I agree with satacer. DH is by far the best vocab book.

yeah, DH did help a lot today on the PSAT..

DH lived up to its name today. Lots of great hits - alleviate, demagogue, deft, audacious, futile, and both supercilious and effusive. IMO supercilious was the answer.

^ hahah i agree!

I think PLASTICITY was the answer to the whalebone question. So add it to the list of DH hits.

If i learn all the 3500 Barron`s words, do you think Direct hits VOL 1 and 2 will be useful to me ?

^Why would you want to try to memorize 3,500 words when you can have fun learning the 400 words in DH?

Because i am pretty sure these 400 won`t be enough.I want be sure...
Besides,i am not a natives English and every new word i learn will be useful to me.

ahhhhhhh...ic
if you're not a native speaker, the hard thing is that you won't have the "gut-feeling" for a lot of words...

well if you have time maybe :P

satacer: what are you referring to when you say 3 in 1. Does that mean the maker of Direct Hits also producers books for the writing/reading sections in addition to vocab, or is there just one large book that contains information on all 3 sections?

Out of curiosity, do you guys use book 1 or 2 of Direct Hits? I have both (haven't started using it yet - will start after tomorrows PSAT) but I don't know the difference between the two...

vol. 1 has the "core" words...as in the words that come up very frequently on level 3 or 4 questions
vol. 1 has the "most difficult" words...as in the words that come up very frequently on level 5 questions

they're both very valuable resources

^ Do you mean volume 2 has the difficult words? I'm thinking about getting these books myself but I only have trouble with the difficult words.

Now that you have gotten your OCT scores do you still feel that Direct Hits helped you reach your CR goal?

Yes, Direct Hits was a big help. Highly recommended. Lots of hits and indirect hits.

Direct Hits definitely helped me reach my goal. I wanted just over a 700 because I've never gotten higher than 690 on any practice test and I a 570 on the CR the first time I took the SAT. After using Direct Hits, along with other things, I got a 710 on the October SAT CR section. :)

From reading this thread and some older ones I see that Direct Hits has performed well on the October SAT as well as past SATs and on both the Wednesday and Saturday PSAT. I know I need to get them for my son but what other book is recommened to help with the rest of the test?

^for Vocab?
