11th Math Marks. Future effect on UC Berkeley application?

Hi, I have just completed my 11th Class. The Problem is that I scored 80+ in all the subjects except Math because I had very high fever before the exam. I scored a 55/100 on my math exam, and overall math marks came down to 62.5/100. Now I am very scared because of this, because I think that for a competitive major like EECS at UC Berkeley, these are very less marks. Moreover, UC Berkeley also does not have an option of counsellor report who could tell the story of my math exam to adcoms. I am confident that that I can score a 36 on ACT Math Section and 800 in SAT Math2 subject test.
Please tell me, what should I do, should I re-test after asking my principal (she can also turn down my request)? Will these marks jeopardize my chances to get into UC Berkeley? UC Berkeley is my dream school...Do suggest me. Thank you! Any help would be appreciated.

Focus on your SAT/ACT, Subject tests, Essays, and ECs. 11th standard marks are just a part of your app, not everything. Score well in 12th half yearly exams, they matter a lot.

Thank you @halamadrid9… for your views!!! But, low math marks and the main subject in EECS is math, that’s why I’m very scared.

I’m currently giving my 11th final exams, I know what you are going through. :(

All the best to you, my friend! Hope you perform well. My luck went bad!

I hope to score around 70% overall :frowning: and as you said, it will definitely jeopardize my chances of getting into some top universities. That’s why I’ll be applying to some universities in UK as well :)

I’m too applying to University of Cambridge… can you guide me through the UCAS app?

You need the following-

  1. 10th mark sheet
  2. 12th predicted scores ( Your counselor will do it, you won’t )
  3. Personal statement ( regarding the subject you want to study )
  4. Teacher reference
You can only apply to 5 universities and can not apply to both Oxford and Cambridge.
An application to Cambridge University consists of both an online UCAS application and Cambridge Online Preliminary Application (COPA).
To be shortlisted for an interview in Delhi, you should have achieved a minimum of 9.8 CGPA in class X. You can also take the help of some agents in your city. Generally, all the UK universities have their agents in India (except Oxbridge, LSE, UCL, Warwick, and Imperial).
They will certainly guide you through the whole application without any costs. Take help from them also.
    I’m applying to Oxford
    Good luck with your applications.

yeah I had achieved a 9.8 CGPA, but I scored an A2 in mathematics, and mathematics is the most main subject and the most important subject in CS. Will I be not shortlisted for the interview? what about that JEE, the website says that Class XII examinations from the CBSE and ISC examination boards followed by the Indian Institutes of Technology Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE) are considered suitable preparation for Engineering, Natural Sciences, Computer Science and Chemical Engineering at Cambridge. Does that mean that I have to score a good rank in IIT-JEE?

On the website it says,
“To be shortlisted for an interview such applicants will need to have achieved a minimum CGPA of 9.8 and grade A1 in class X examinations in the relevant subjects”.
As I said earlier, It’s always better to mail a university and find out. Your interview is the most important part of your application (especially when you’re applying to Oxbridge).
By the way, Why Cambridge over Oxford ? :)

Holy mother of **** :open_mouth:
I can’t ****ing believe that i am ineligible for Cambridge just because of SST and German?!!?! I got a CGPA of 9.6- automatically ineligible for Cambridge irrespective of my JEE rank

There are other unis as well @Robots156 L-)

@mak1702 Yes ! they standardly require a rank of less than 2000 in IIT-JEE :expressionless:

Still dude its ****ing crazy- i just sent an email to their admissions office. I am expecting a pretty great rank in JEE and hence it was worse. Cambridge offers the MMS scholarship and is very good for me because i need fin. aid

What subject do you want to study at Cambridge @Robots156 ? Curious

Computers would definatly be my first choice!

I’m also interested in Cambridge, but for mathematics. But still I’ve got lot of time to decide whether I’ll apply to Oxford or Cambridge. I will definitely get an interview from Cambridge ( I got a 10 ), but not sure about Oxford as they take into account MAT scores as well. ~X(

How many MMS do they offer every year? and @halamadrid9 what if I don’t get a rank in top 2000 in JEE Advance. Will my admission be rescinded? and Can I give TOEFL scores instead of IELTS?

If you get an offer from Cambridge, they will provide you two conditions-

  1. Get 90% in your 12th boards
  2. Get an rank under 2000 in JEE( Advanced)
If you don’t fulfill any of these conditions, they will reject you straightaway.
Any offers from UK unis will be conditional. All unis will have their different conditions which you’ll have fulfill to get an unconditional offer.

and from oxford?
