Hello, I submit my common application at 11:02 CT (my time) which is 12:02 ET. The common app website was going atrociously slow and it didn't go through until after the deadline. I had all my other components into the system by the deadline, and CommonApp says I have completed my application even though I was late with submitting the application part. I have emailed both my school rep and another rep about this and seeing if they will still review my materials. Does anyone know if the deadline is very firm/strict? I need to know because I honestly spent 150 dollars sending scores to NYU and paying the application fee, and if it didn't go through I will need to be paying my family those costs. And I would just like to know to regain some sanity after this horrifyingly slow process. Thank you!

I submitted it 13 minutes late, however it is not looking in our favor.

"From our access to the Common Application control center, the portal by which we access all applications to NYU, we can see that you have indicated you may be applying to one of NYU’s campuses. I must alert you that your Common Application has not been submitted to NYU and our deadline is quickly approaching.

Please know that if you have submitted your application fee and NYU Supplement, you likely received an email confirmation showing receipt of these two items. Still, this does not mean you have submitted your Common Application to NYU. You must still take the appropriate steps to submit your Common Application to NYU. If you are unable to do so by our deadline, January 1 at 11:59pm (Eastern Standard Time), we will be unable to consider you for admission - even if you submitted your application fee and NYU Supplement."

I have spent over $120 as well… Erg.

I just always wondered, to people in your situation, what in the world could have stopped you from submitting your app on time?

Like, its the night it is due, and you’re just waiting until completely the last minute to submit it to the extent that a lag in the Common App server stopped your ability to get it in on time.
Im sorry, I know that isn’t your question. It really just seems so absurd.

It’s because you cannot submit your application until you finish your supplement, and it I obviously did not finish my supplement until 10 minutes before it was due. Then the system started lagging. Of course there are not extenuating circumstances that are prohibiting me from submitting on time, but the fact of the matter is I was unable to meet the deadline. It’s not like we’re sitting on a finished application before we hit submit.

Looks like NYU is a deadline-Nazi.

Okay,

I have been in talks with my admissions counselor from NYU for a while, I emailed her last night and she gave this reply.

"Even though your application was submitted after midnight we will still be able to consider you for admission.

Let me know if there is anything else that I can help you with."

You may want to email your counselor though.

I emailed mine as well last night and she did not respond to me. Are you speaking about the representative from NYU?

My common application for NYU says “Downloaded 1/3/13” -does this mean that I will be considered for admission? Every other application I’ve finished says downloaded next to it.

I submitted my application the day before the deadline (12/31) and I still got the email that said “you have not submitted your NYU app” from the school. I think it just takes time to download it, so disregard the email…

I’d try calling the admissions office when they open back up and see if you can get an answer there.

Good luck!
