So I had a death in my family in late December that delayed my application process. I thought I was pretty much done for with my Jan 1st deadline for NYU. Then, Undergraduate Admissions sent out an email saying they were extending their deadline until midnight Jan 5th. I was so happy and grateful.

I finished up everything and even payed the application fee. Then, when I went to press submit common app said that I couldn't submit because it was passed the deadline. I don't get it. It wasn't midnight, NYU DID say they were extending their deadline, and I wasn't missing anything.

Worst of all, why did the common app even let me pay for the application fee if it wasn't going to let me send in my actual application?
I just LOVE how common app will stop you from submitting your apps but won't stop you from submitting a payment.

I sent one of the undergraduate counselors an email explaining the situation.
Do you think NYU might give me a chance?
Is NYU understanding of these situations?

Please do update this thread if you get information from contacting commonapp.
I am about to submit an application which the deadline has been extended too, and I am afraid that it will do the same thing to me!

Hopefully everything will work out for your NYU application! Just relax and be patient.

Oh and try contacting NYU admission as well. They are very responsive. In my case they replied me the day after I sent them an email.

I actually haven’t contacted common app but I’ve been talking with the counselor from NYU and she said that the common app portal is closed but she sent my email to the director to see if there was anything that could be done. She said she would answer back soon.

I think it could go either way at this point. In a previous reply she asked me if I had submitted my creative portfolio to which I replied that I definitely had. So maybe they’ll make an exception since that has already been submitted to Tisch. I don’t know…

I’m trying to keep my hopes up.

@terpischoria My suggestion to you would be that if common app does give you trouble, contact the school and tell them that you finished everything by the extended deadline but that common app is being a pain in the ass. I think a lot of colleges really try to help kids if they can. Especially when it’s the technology’s fault.

Did you attempt to submit it before the deadline in NYU’s timezone (EST)? If so, they’ll hopefully not hold this against you, as it sounds like an error on Common App’s end.

ok, I have tried contacting common app customer service in the past - but they have not been very helpful.

1) have you tried submitting it from different computers. Mac vs Windows. I have heard some Mac people having problems.

2) I thought I read somewhere on the NYU website that they accept paper applications. Check it. if that is true - you can just send them a print out.

@amghspa Yea, I’m probably going to have to send in paper app. And I’m going to have to complete it by tomorrow because the post is closed on Sundays and I want them to get it as soon as possible.

Great news everyone!
The NYU counselor finally got in touch with me and told me to submit my Common App.
I couldn’t believe it! They actually reopened the common app portal for me.
That was extremely kind of them!

I mean, that doesn’t guarantee anything and for all I know, I’ve probably been moved to the bottom of the list for considering applications, but the point is that I’m going to be given a chance and they’re going to read all my work.
That’s better than nothing!

I know I’m probably coming off as stupidly optimistic to some of you, but I don’t care!
NYU gave me a chance and that’s all that matters. :D

Hi I have a bit of a dillema. I got accepted to both NYU and Purdue but NYU didnt give me any aid. My father is unemployed and my mother can only contribute about 5000 a year to my education.Purdue gave me $40,000 ($10,000 per year). I am planning to be a finance major and got accepted to both schools business schools. what do you guys think would be the best choice, is NYU worth it? to take out the loans?
