I'm an international student and in my country we get our mid-year reports around the end of January. I was wondering whether it's the same situation in the US? Also, does the mid-year report play a big role in college admission or have most colleges made up their minds whether to accept you or not by the time you send it?

In the US, we get our reports around the same time, so don’t worry. As for the importance of the report, it depends on the school. Some colleges don’t even require applicants to send mid year reports. For those that do, however, especially the elite schools, the reports could make or break an applicant if the committee is on the fence about them. If they are already sure about accepting or denying someone, it shouldn’t play that big of a role. That is assuming, of course, that the report is not straight Fs.
