Good point, Nicky embodies the true invalidity of this entire thread.

People often bemoan how they are rejected from UF with a 1400 SAT, yet don’t mention their 2.3 GPA.

Basically, don’t take this thread seriously.

so you are suggesting that Nicky is lying, eh?

I am not suggesting he is lying. I am telling you he is lying.

Look at his past posts and he says he was accepted into UF . Another thread he said he got a 30 ACT and was going to UCF honors.

He is basically full of ****.

I read through a lot of this and it’s considerably bothering me how much emphasis people put on standardized test scores. I scored a 23 ACT in April, yet a 28 in September. I think that shows how much of a problem standardized testing can be. I knew my material, but I certainly didn’t know how to work the ACT test. I bought the REAL act and studied my ass off and brought it up.

Anyway, I didn’t want to bring up an old post but I did. I have a 4.28 UF GPA, 28ACT, top 1% class rank. I think I’m in, but the crazy stats people are posting scare me.

Can we imagine how bad this thread would be on decision day in February with the middle 50% jumping from 26 to 31 TO 29 to 31 of ACT scores. There’s gonna be a lot of upset people. I hope I’m not one of them!!

Hopefully the Holistic Admissions curve is not so egregious this year. Also would like to see fairness between the public vs private school applicants.

Wish to also see more out-of-state students admitted this year as well.

I know that UF really loves IB students and I have seen many IB students with “not so impressive” scores and/or GPA get accepted over non-IB students with better scores and GPA. I teach a college prep class for juniors and seniors and after learning how some get accepted over others, who really should have been accepted but were not, I have become completely puzzled over UF’s admission decisions. For those of you who really want to go to UF I wish you the best of luck on getting in. For those of you that are not accepted maybe down the road you might discover it really was for the best. Good luck this February.

I just hope they don’t have “Tufts syndrome” where they reject over-qualified applicants because they feel that these students are viewing UF as a safety. If people show no interest in the school/write a sloppy essay/etc, then I can understand rejecting them. If somebody writes a great essay and wants to get in but doesn’t see UF as their 1st choice, however, I hope they won’t reject him or her on the grounds of over-qualification.

Everybody needs to stop FING complaining because on the application all of you who got rejected obviously admissions saw something they didn’t like, so stop crying and get over it, ITS NOT THE END OF THE WORLD. If I don’t get accepted I won’t go around to random forums BING and MOANING about it. So get you head out of you’re A*ES and GO DO SOMETHING PRODUCTIVE.

(I am not saying any of this because I’ve been accepted, because I haven’t, I have 1330, 680 math, 650 cr, and a 3.8 W, 3.64 UW)

And you’re setting such a fine example of productivity. ;)

My take on this is that UF has some serious admissions troubles to work out. Either place more emphasis on standardized testing scores, or do some serious research into the highschools that applicants are graduating from. A 3.3 in one school can involve a ridiculous amount of work, while a 4.0 in another school can involve almost no effort. Unfortunately, UF tends to indirectly reward students with higher GPAs who attend easier schools by accepting very few students from private schools.

^^^^And, that’s different from any other state university how??

It’s not, but it’s still not right. UF should take initiative and lead in this area, not sit back and follow the norm. The Florida Public School system is horrible; an A in a Florida Public Highschool means absolutely nothing. I know this because I have experience with Florida’s school system, and the school systems of other states, as well as private school’s within Florida. Accepting a student from a Florida Public highschool with a 4.0 GPA, and an SAT score of 1100, while rejecting a student from a Private School, or a school from another state, that has an SAT score of 1300, is entirely illogical and, truly, unfair. Yea, life isn’t fair. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to make it more so.

Stop posting in this thread.

Florida already has stated it uses the “holistic” approach, so this whole SAT argument is bunk.

Seriously, this thread is over two years old, just let it die.

The thread is over 2 years old? It’s not even a year old.
I think UF’s Admissions process and decisions are questionable.

As far as the private schools are concerned, UF and all the Florida state schools must admit a certain amount from the Florida public school system. There is a certain percentage that they Must allow in. That is why they are so hard on private school students. It does stink but I am sure that it is the same in other state’s public universities.

Is there any evidence admissions is tougher on private schools?

Of about the 100 that apply to UF from the private school I attend, around 45 get in.

That percentage is likely higher than most public schools.

I think UF has an ok admissions system, but there are a few cases that I am left with my mouth open. I had two senior friends last year, both filipino, one was a dancer (captain) and the other was top 5%. Now the dancer was only in the top 25% yet she gets in, I was stunned. I know she had good ec’s but still, top 25%? So in a lot of ways the admissions process is kind of unfair, in my opinion of course.

Ohh yeah the sat scores, the one in the top 5% had low 1200’s and the other 1100 something.

Ryan, if that is the case then I believe your school is an exception. If you go through the admission threads here, and check on places like mychances<dot>net, students who, overall, are qualified to attend UF, but attended private High schools, are less likely to be admitted.</dot>

Shouldn’t this thread be changed to 1950 and rejected?

I don’t know much about UF, but I do know that one kid from my school got in last spring with not stellar grades. Then again, he experienced lots of hardship, (multiple injuries/hospitalizations), his friend’s murder, etc and he comes from a very affluent family. I don’t know how much that is taken into consideration as far as admission, but I’m thinking in his case being from an elite independent school in NY helps, right.

ETA** This kid had a second residency in Florida so that might have helped him?
