1300 or Higher but rejected thread

don’t go to FSU, if you do you’d be scrub, lol

alwaysandforever: “And to add to it, since we’re debating class rank. I go to a school where we’ve had 25+ national merit finalists EVERY YEAR. We’ve had 4 kids in 5 years get a PERFECT score on the SAT. Is it fair that I will get rejected because I chose to challange myself and go to a gifted school instead of taking the easy way out at the local public school?”

Just cause some of us don’t have the money for a private school doesn’t mean we’re taking the “easy way out.” An AP test is the same difficulty for everyone, and in that same respect, an AP class (if taught correctly) is typically of the same rigor universally. “Challenging” yourself is based off of the course rigor, not the school you go to, and if you have a 4+ GPA I highly doubt UF cares how many more people in your school have a higher one than you.

nosoydechilie: “but good luck to people appealing, maybe ill see some of you guys up there next year if i decide to not go to FSU.”

don’t go to FSU, you’d be scrub, lol

^Shut up while you’re not too far behind.

lol, i know noysoydechilie personally. It’s just a joke between friends, no real offense meant towards FSU

ha , yeah , Im still considering

I think the meeting with teh business advisor might turn me towards UF

i still have a little time to decide though

I go to public school, thanks. So no I don’t pay for this, I chose to apply and chose to go there. [Welcome to Pine View School](http://www.sarasota.k12.fl.us/pvs/overview.html)

I was discussing the fact that earlier the thread talked about how class rank may have played a major factor in kids with high SAT scores getting rejected. I get screwed on class rank, even though I would generally get straight A’s if I wasn’t forced to take ALL honors classes. I was just pointing out the sometimes unfair system of class ranking between schools.

I agree with alwaysandforever.

Some schools have a better than average student body, which deflates the class rank of otherwise amazing candidates. Therefore, class rank really shouldn’t be a factor. GPA, Difficulty of classes, SAT / ACT scores, Extracurriculars…those are what truly count.

alwaysandforever,

wow, I knew public schools like that existed, but knowing the way Florida treats education I didn’t think we had any in state. Oh well

Either way, what I was trying to say is I don’t think class rank really matters so much as GPA. Does anyone really have any proof (or something close to it) that class rank is a huge factor? Because I see people saying that you have to be in teh top 10% of your class to get in, but they never really state where their information comes from and it seems to be more of a speculation to me.

If you have a high GPA I don’t think it particularly matters what you rank compared to other students in your school because it should really only matter in comparison to others applying to UF (I doubt that someone with a 4.6 GPA and a rank of 10 has that much of an advantage over someone with a 4.6 GPA and a rank of 50. UF admissions has it’s faults, but i would think they’re not that illogical).

And just out of curiosity, you said you take all honors classes, are any of those AP classes? because if not, that’s probably hurting you more then your class rank, cause I know UF looks for those.

It’s a wonderful school, I love it. Florida needs to revamp its general educational set-up but I hope they don’t mess with Pine View because we’ve found a system that works.

When you attend PV, you are required to take honors classes as your base courses (in everything but foreign language because FL doesn’t offer honors langauge credits). From there you can decide to take AP classes or dual-enrollment at our local community college (now the State College of Florida). I took AP World History sophomore year, I’m taking AP American History, AP Psychology, AP Language and Composition, and next year plan to take AP Government, AP Literature, and AP Human Geography. Most of our students graduate with 4 AP credits, I think.

Oh, you’re a Junior, lol.

If you’re going to take 7 AP courses over all and you do well in them, then your GPA should be fine and your course rigor should be plenty enough to satisfy them, so you shouldn’t have a problem getting in. That, and if you’re SAT/ACT is fairly high cause I’m pretty sure they put a lot of weight on that too. Like I said before, they probably don’t look at class rank much because for them it’s not as regulated, because you can easily have the opposite situation of your school which would make it easy to get a high rank because the majority of the kids aren’t as motivated, and UF admissions probably takes that kind of stuff into consideration.

Is a 30 ACT score high enough in regards to standardized scores?

Hmm… let’s see. You can check the College Board website. Or at the top of this page AND this UF forum where it says “CC Resources for University of Florida,” you can select “Applicant Stats.” Or you can search the UF forum for decisions on the class of 2013 applicants.

That would be a good idea if clicking “applicant stats” showed me any ACT scores. However it only has SAT scores.

Maybe I was looking for some personal opinions rather than looking at the 2013 thread, which contains mostly SAT SCORES.

If you are going to try to give advice, try not to be blatantly wrong.

Congratulations on your ignorance and thanks for wasting my time.

Well, genius, I decided to take a look at the thread to see how many applicants had entered their ACT scores in their decision. There were quite a few, and and that was just perusing through pages 3 and 5. I also noticed that there were several applicants who were accepted with composite ACT scores below a 30. Also, if you had paid a visit to the College Board website (which you didn’t mention in your last post), you would see the average ACT score for UF is between a 25 and 30. By now, it would’ve become evident that a score of 30 IS PRETTY SOLID FOR UF.

You said you’re looking for “personal opinions.” I don’t know why you wouldn’t just look at the facts.

this is completely irrelevant to this thread but… how do u quote someone’s post? I’ve hit reply and checked the “quote message in reply” box before, but that never works

type this [q u o t e] [/q u o t e] without the spaces and put their post in the middle.

sorry you have to use (quote) (/quote) but instead of the ()() put [/]

***** UF.
I have a 33 ACT, a 4.5 UF GPA, tons of extracurrics, a strong essay, good character, and i WANT to learn.
A lot of people in my grade got in with mediocre grades and scores, and one guy, a total jerk, got in, and for what? no one knows yet.
its great NOT to be a florida gator. and to all those going, its way overrated.

nicky, didn’t you say in another post that you got into UF? And then you posted on the UCF Honor’s College thread that you got a 30 ACT and 1300 SAT?

Lying is good character? Not really. Don’t exaggerate, it would help out next year’s applicants if people were honest about their credentials when they applied.
