or...instead of having one strong really strong SAT or GPA, just have fairly strong everything...thats obviously what they are looking for. I wasn't worried at all, and as i expected I got in easily. Im not hispanic, low income, or needy, just well-rounded.

all you kids with really really high SATs are lazy on your clubs im betting. I know of plenty of kids who got in with those scores and its because they are well rounded.

btw my SAT is 1360/1990
UF gpa somewhere in the 5s i didnt calculate it because I wasnt worried :0

She is in the top 10% of the hs with 3.8 and 5.8 wgpa, but i was worried because her sat was so-so ( 700/680/620) she has a lot of leadership, she is french( maybe it helped.. who knows??).. i would have been very mad if the result would have been negative.. so i understand very much people who worked a lot with good stats very upset right now because they are rejected!! there is something unfair in the college process game! in my D's hs a girl with bad stats and top 25% was accepted(summer ) when another girl top15% very active in clubs ..good sat( around 1800) was denied! both of them URM!! what i learned( good for my youngest son) is that you need to start early to be competitive and always do an extra something!! be out of the box! and during the college process everything can happens! luck is a factor! but if you are good and you did not get in it's because a better school( better fit) is awaiting for you and will accept you!! relax the process is not over yet!

My son with those stats (almost exactly)who didn't get in a couple of years ago applied fairly late....
Son with just a little bit higher stats (high 1400's, 3.9 UF GPA) applied late Oct., this year, was admitted for summer. They aren't great essay writers.

These stats do not show an outrageously high SAT or an outstanding core GPA. Couple that with an out-of-state status and it makes admission that much more difficult.

4.0 uf gpa
2230 sat (1500 m+v); 740, 700, 800 sat II’s
9 ap’s and the rest honors courses
football, track, other ec’s
and i was rejected from fall 09… :(

i’m oos but my dad lives in-state so i count as instate for tuition and admission purposes. i think i was rejected cause i turned in the app like 3 days late. and they still offered me spring 10 admission but i might just appeal and see if i can get into fall 09… i’m not trying to sound bitter even though i probably do. i’m just frustrated with myself i guess…

To be honest, after reading all these kids that didnt get in with these amazing stats, its making me rethink not going to UF.

Right now im leaning towards FSU (because of scholarship and honors program). The only reason i would go to UF is for the prestige factor. Since neither school really drew me in.

So for the people who didnt get in, if you appeal(like my friend is), maybe you will get in. Because I personally know of 6 people plus me who got accepted but are most likely not going. So you would think spots are opening up now that people are telling UF they arent going there.

I had a 1320 sat , 28 act. A few EC, nothing amazing. and probably a 4 something gpa.

but good luck to people appealing, maybe ill see some of you guys up there next year if i decide to not go to FSU.

@Helpful Mom
The problem with a GPA-centered admission is that messing up in one class (even if it’s a class of more rigor) can be the tipping point. A student getting a B shouldn’t be seen as a bad thing if that’s the best of their ability.

And to add to it, since we’re debating class rank. I go to a school where we’ve had 25+ national merit finalists EVERY YEAR. We’ve had 4 kids in 5 years get a PERFECT score on the SAT. Is it fair that I will get rejected because I chose to challange myself and go to a gifted school instead of taking the easy way out at the local public school?

Well my friend who is a senior went to a college seminar and they told him that some colleges (UF) throw away some of the applications, they explained to him that they do that because they cannot look thru 28000 applications. Is that true? i mean our top student had a 4.6 UF gpa, and cant remember the SAT scores, she got rejected, is that even possible.

The University of Florida would never “throw away” applications.

That claim is ridiculous and unsubstantiated.

People shouldn’t be too worried about this thread.

The veracity of many of these supposed scores will never be known.

Furthermore we don’t know the entire picture.

Some of these 1300 and 1400’s aren’t posting their GPA, and for good reason.

UF admission is two thirds GPA.

The fact that people think they can coast their way through high school, do well on a three hour test, and get into UF is a testament to the ignorance of the masses.
