How many rejected with 1300+ SAT scores?

S was flat out rejected with 1330 SAT and 4.3 UF GPA. IB program. Strong extracurriculars.

I'm trying to figure out if his case is unusual or if there were many kids with this kind of record that UF just didn't have room for this fall.

appeal......please do....that's the problem with UF, they accept too many people to make room for diversified students, rather than those who worked harder to get there

rejected with 1470

^ thats hard to believe, what was ur gpa?

4.02, on the lower end

I was rejected with a 32 ACT, which is about a 1420. I had a low GPA though, which on the UF scale used on this forum was a 3.6. I just saw on the Florida website though that they only count the academic classes but they still use the grading scale the school uses.

Ask UF - How will UF compute my high school GPA?

I'd better go recalculate mine! I'll be right back!

Last year my son was rejected with a 1440, and a friend with a 1500. Good EC's, grades, lots of APs, etc., etc.... The reason given was the standard "too many qualified applicants". There was a lot of head-scratching going on, and some thought to appealing.

However, here we are one year later, and both young men, (and their parents), are extremely happy with their current college situations.

Things happen for a reason. My older son is at UF, and loves it, but for a number of reasons I won't go into, I'm much happier with the freshman experience my non-UF son has had.

My guess is that those rejected with the kinds of stats you are describing have a lot of other great options. Choose the best one of those, and move forward.

Good luck to all of you!

Hmm...my UF GPA is actually 3.9 instead of 3.6. That's kinda nice to know. It won't make a difference though.

so it looks like UF admissions are still quite random even with this single deadline.

1320 SAT, 31 ACT

I'd imagine my UF GPA is somewhere between 3.8-4.2

personally, i believe that they get soooo many quailified applicants that it just gets to a point where a 1200 or 1320 sat wont make the difference. they have to pick out of a hat. its sad but true. EXPAND THE UNIVERSITY!!!!!

It's easy to just go to another school if you have a major common to all universities or are undecided. I would have no problem sending S to FSU if they offered his major.

The dilemma I am now faced with is choosing between a free/low cost education at a lower tier in state school with questionable strength in his major or ensuring a higher quality education, but out of state tuition costs. We might have gone out of state anyway, but I sure would have liked to have the choice.

I know a few from my school.

Rejected with a 1520 :(

^^^ thats flat out rediculous umcane. somethings wrong there. was ur gpa like <3.0 or something cuz wow. 1520. nobody in my high school got that, highest was a 1490

I don't get it...my friend got in with a 24 and a 1010...she had great ec's but a 3.2 uw, and a 3.9 uf gpa...

dag89,
is it who we know?

You folks appear to be missing the fact that UF is a state university with certain admissions goals to meet. To be blunt, they have plenty of white students from wealthy families. They need a diverse student body and work towards that end. Diversity in freshmen enrollment is more important. This includes students where the parents are not college graduates or families afflicted with adverse circumstances.

I asked the question of a high ranking FSU official some time ago why FSU did not more strongly compete with UF in terms of FTIC statistics, as it did when I attended FSU in the 1970s. I was told that FSU could easily increase FTIC stats by admitting only white females from wealthy families, but this did not meet diversity goals, which were regarded as more important.

Both schools turn down well-qualified students in order to meet diversity goals.

This is hollow comfort to those of you who had your heart set on attending UF. It is arbitrary, unfair and painful to those not admitted. Regardless, you will survive and do well wherever you go to college. In the work world this kind of thing happens every day.

Good luck to all.

I think you guys are placing too much importance on your test scores. I can understand why some of you are upset because you also have good gpas, etc. but you cant base it on your test score, UF doesnt really use that as a big deciding factor.

The UF admissions officer that came to our school said that they bascially group everyones scores, so if you had below a 1200 you were grouped together and above a 1200 you were grouped together. Dont know if they still do that.

I don't get it...my friend got in with a 24 and a 1010...she had great ec's but a 3.2 uw, and a 3.9 uf gpa...

Whats wrong with a 3.9? And if she had great ec well thats what got her in because thats what they look for. They also have been decreasing the number of IB students they take because on a national level it wasnt helping anything.

did your friend get in this year with those credentials?
