1st quarter grades

I guess I realized the importance of grades a little too late in my high school career. I moved to a new school freshman year that was vastly harder than my last and was overwhelmed. My GPA is a little above 3.0 with the hardest classest. I have gotten C's in Spanish because I did not have the prerequsite middle school education the rest of my peers had and therefore struggled. I realize how much this destroys my chances for University of Michigan, however, I have maintained all A's and 1 B (Expository writing) my senior year, and am continuing that trend. I have no doubt I will end the semester with those same grades and probably the year. Michigan already has my first quarter grades and has not yet made a decision on my application. Is it likely they will take into consideration my senior grades? Also if I am lucky enough to be defered should I write a letter to the admissions office to keep in touch and perhaps explain more in depth some of the gaps in my grades (spanish)?

This might not help you, but I am in the exact same boat as you and was already deffered. Hopefully they will see my senior year grades and I will be admitted. I have the same question about writing them in January once I get my grades.

does anyone get flat out rejected now? what are the odds once someone is deffered?

Good luck.

I was told by my counselor that Michigan doesn't want letters, they just want to see your grades and will make a decision based on that, and previous information.

Michigan gets rid of your freshman year grades. As well as non-academics. And pluses and minuses. So your GPA may look a little better than you think. Or worse.
