My GPA is not competitive - a 2.73 at the moment, 2.83 at Fall semester's end.

I am the VP / COO of a business club and Pres. of a philosophy club that a friend and I established.

I am applying as Bus Admin w/ emphasis in Accountancy. I would like to minor in Finance or Philosophy.

I'm looking to land an internship within the accounting industry within the next 2 months.

From my understanding, my chances are much more significant if I applied to a CSU as opposed to UC or private. I would have to wait till Fall '12 to apply, as I will have the minimum required GPA of 3.00.

With unfortunate news of budget cuts being more rampant than most of us would like to hear, as well as a long 4 years at a CC, I would like to be in a 4-year asap. Is a UC worth the wait/risk of tuition hikes?

I would rather go to a UC than a CSU, for the purpose that UC's generally have more recruitment opportunities and a relatively more well-established alumni network. (correct me if I'm wrong, I haven't done much research on this, only a tad bit + hearsay do I come to this conclusion.)

My low GPA + my desire of 4-year education + my desire for a UC = apply for a major that is easy to be admitted to then change it? What are your thoughts on this? Why or why not should I pursue this method?

With my current situation, should I play it honest and apply to all UC's and CSU's and hope for the best?

*Also, do you think I would be able to get into any private schools? If so, what major?

Thanks for your time.

You’re better off finishing your degree as soon as possible considering the tuition continues to rise in the public system and the state government fails to continue their support of the education system.

Also, you’re gonna have to do better than a 2.5-3.0 if you want to do accounting. Accounting firms would like to see at least a 3.0-3.5 (higher is better). Perhaps you’ll do better in a CSU school where it’s oriented towards technical/vocational skills rather than research.

UC’s are research focused and I honestly feel that accounting, you’re better off saving some money and going through with a CSU and doing well there. Very popular majors though so have a backup plan / major.

Well, San Jose State University conveniently lists what GPAs were needed to transfer into each major in fall 2011:

[SJSU Admission](http://info.sjsu.edu/web-dbgen/narr/admission/rec-1232.html)

Your 2.73 is higher than the 2.60 needed for most of the various business majors at SJSU for fall 2011 (but not accounting, where the threshold was 3.00). However, since your GPA is not that much higher, there is the possibility that if SJSU business becomes more popular, the GPA threshold may be higher for fall 2012.

Some other CSUs are less impacted or not impacted at all. Transferring to an unimpacted CSU campus and major just needs a 2.0 GPA.
