Im transferring this fall I have a 2.9 and a business major. What are my chances that i get in to UCR or ucsc. My friend said I have a good chance getting in at UCR.Im also African American but that probably doesnt matter

I think they have a Cal community college mandate. If so they may be in reach. GL

Your chances are pretty limited but still hope. Also, I do think being African American will help you. It is technically illegal, but I truly believe most UC’s favor African Americans and Hispanic Americans and make it harder for Asian Americans. I had a friend who was hispanic and he got into UCR our senior year of high school and he had a 2.7 gpa or something ridiculously low. I knew quite a few white kids who got rejected with gpa’s over 3.0. Any chance you can raise it this semester? My brother was down to a 3.0 but his last year he bumped it up to a 3.4 or so from getting nearly straight A’s.

THE ILLEGAL PART IS JUST LUDICROUS AND NOT WORTHY OF RESPONSE.

Why the race card? Asian’s are not underepresented, and being Hispanic is nothing special in Cal. Assuming you have your facts straight, which I doubt. The 2.7 Hispanic kid surely brought something to the table other than being Hispanic. BTW just to emphasize my point there’s nearly 100k Hispanic high school graduates in California, of which 25,000 are viable candidates to UCR, and that’s just in Cali.

I understand what you are saying but I think that there are way to many asians at UC’s.Its weird where I live in San Bernardino by Riverside I had like 5 asians at my old high school and I never see really any around town but if you go to UCR you will see thousands.Im not racist but UC’s need to be more diverse especially UCI.

@Soso Calm down. No race card was being played. No he did not, he was not a part of clubs or anything else that would help him. It’s common knowledge so wake up.

Asian Americans make up the highest percentage at UCR while African American’s make up the lowest percentage. They want to even up those percentages. They do not want to be labeled as “Asian school” or a “White school”. UC’s are all about being diverse. Couldn’t it simply mean less hispanics apply for college, or that Hispanics average scores and GPA’s are lower? Of course you wouldn’t like to think deeper then common stats. Anyways, those are my findings Anthony. I wish the best of luck to you.

Mrandall: The only thing worse than playing the race card is playing it and not owning up to it. You do not know the whole story. I doubt if you even know half the story. You do not have his application so you do not know his true stats. Stop the guessing and mudslinging.

Wow, assumptions again. He’s a close friend of mine and I know what was on his application. Logic wins again. Why are you getting so angry?

Anyways lets get back to Anthony’s question and not your personal problems.

If http://statfinder.ucop.edu were still up, you could estimate your chances from it. But it is no longer available.

Mrandall: Just doing what I can to shut down ignorant nonsense. Consider yourself shut down. Unless you want to go into the logic of claiming to be someone’s friend while calling him out as a criminal to the world? Have you forgotten your illegal crack? I haven’t. Logic would dictate that you quit while you’re behind.

Why would that make my friend a criminal? It is not illegal for the student to be Hispanic, it is illegal for the school to select someone over another due to race. Look up affirmative action, that should get you started.

You think it is illegal to be a minority?

Mrandall: Read your own post #3. You can’t even keep track of your own nonsense so now you have to qualify it and try to patch it up. Again, you do not have the application. You do not work for admissions. You’re guessing and you’re negative stereotyping. Your ultimate down fall is the ignorance of large numbers. There are likely 250,000 Hispanic high school graduates in the US, of which, 50,000, would likely qualify for UCR (84% admission rate). I think even you can see there is no AA at play. There are a lot of Hispanics and UCR is an easy school to get into. End of story.

In 1996 California passed Prop 209 it states:

@Soso Dude you are so racist, and you have no idea what you are talking about. Look up affirmative action. You are just arguing yourself into a corner. Also you accuse me of making things up, like my friends app which I know exactly what was on it. Then you post some BS numbers. Get over yourself.

“There are likely 250,000 Hispanic high school graduates in the US, of which, 50,000, would likely qualify for UCR”

Nice numbers, where did you get them?

dang you guys ruined my post ha

@curious Yes there is the affirmative action law that soso does not believe can be broken. There are many equality laws in the work force that are also broken on a daily basis. Soso to think that all laws are followed to the letter is just ridiculous.

@Anthony sorry man I was trying to end it. Just cannot stand this guys stupidity. Hopefully a mod can come in and clean it up. Sorry once again.

I agree with mrandall. Also is soso asian is that why he is defensive about race and uc admission
