Anyone else have a crappy first semester at Cal?

no, getting a 4.0 with little to no stress was quite enjoyable…

sorry yours sucked. I hate the city and the people but classes were pretty fun.

^ You’re a first-year? I thought you were a cynical sophomore or junior…

Eh. I got an A- avg. But the rest of my life sucks, I assure you.

Even if you have a tough first semester at Cal, you can still do well in coming semesters with good work ethic.

Don’t let juniors taking 13 units of freshman level classes get you down sir!

3.28

Math@Cal raped me.

i’m at a 3.3! yay! lol sophomore. goddamn it.

2.85…first semester…but now soph standing…

FPF was a blessing in disguise. I had a lot of fall admits on my floor wishing they were in FPF so they could have my teachers. haha

it’s alright bros, i think a lot of students have poor first semesters, it’s almost to be expected lol

I got worse than you lol

except you mech. you have like a 4.5 you smart ■■■■■■■ you!!!

hardly, thanks for the compliment though haha

3.67, slightly higher than last sem.

I got a 2.87 my first term. Then I started swinging 3.5+ most of the time. I also think it may have been harder even seven, eight years ago now? I think the first term “*****slap” is a rite of passage, so lowbies starting out? Keep your head up.

FPF is a joke, those kids, when I met them partied all the freaking time and did absolutely no work, comparatively, and like CC-transfers, there should be a big fat asterix next to their GPAs. No offense meant of course, but I think people who went all the way through and slogged through the “First Semester *****slap” and all the other crap that comes with being a 4-5 year Cal Student are definitely a breed apart. FPF is like a “trial” period to see if you can hack it. I think they should be given the same classes, same work, same everything and if they can’t swing it, rather than getting eased in, there should be a no-penalty “Thanks for trying, but Cal is obviously not for you – right now.” separation. Because, believe you me, I would read some of these kid’s papers (in my frat and in the dorms) to help them out when I was a soph and higher, and they were significantly less prepared than the full-in students.

3.567… now to get raped next semester :)

@andrewtdx

I take slight offense to that remark because for the most part, my friends, also in FPF, were able to help a lot of fall admits with their English papers and Math homework during the semester. But I’ll be the first to admit that the nasty curves and competition that give Berkeley its reputation are virtually non-existent at FPF. The teachers are more chill and yes, a lot of the students in FPF partied a lot in high school and continued that trend during their first semester. However, there are still very bright students in the program that deserve some credit.

@andrewtdx

The thing will FPF is that other than math and R&C, most of the classes they offer are primarily used as breadth courses, so they are expected to be rather easy. I finished most of my breadth through FPF in Fall 07.

Haha, better than my 2.867…if I were smarter, I should have taken Chem 1A, Math 16A, and Physics 8A, instead of 4A, 54, and 7A. Maybe my GPA would have been okay.

Wait FPF grades get factored in to the real GPAs? I thought it was just transferred units. And seriously fpf, my roomies were getting out before 12 except for maybe like one day out of the week. I don’t mean like the classes are all jammed from 8 to 12 either. I’m talking get up at 9 or 10 and go to class for an hour or two.

^chem 4a+physics7a+math1b+ac first semester FTL! heh
