2 UCSD questions- 1 social and 1 academic

So the first one you guys have probably heard a million times, so allow me to rephrase it to be more specific. I think the nature of any big public university is that you have to go out and get it- nothing just comes to you. That doesn't really bother me. My social question is whether there is really any social scene ON CAMPUS. A lot of what I hear described is that most of the parties, while fun, are off in la jolla somewhere and little happens on campus. I guess I'm looking for a bit of a campus-based college community feel and I wonder how much that exists at UCSD.

My second question is for CS majors or those who know a lot about it. CS seems like one of those subjects that is completely different from school to school because it is so interdisciplinary and some schools will emphasize different things. What would you say is emphasized at UCSD in the required courses (obviously there are also specializations). Would a primary interest in neuroscience have a good fit there?
Thanks everyone

I’m going to be going to UCSD in the fall, so I don’t know the answer to your first question. As for the second though, UCSD is pretty much ideal for a cog sci major with secondary interests in neuroscience. Their neuroscience dept is quite well recognized.

parties definitely happen on campus, its just mostly low key. You can’t be too loud because you will get busted, but you can play beer pong. Just dont expect it to be a raging party.

I was visiting the school and they had a concert and a rave on campus going on in the same night so it can’t be that bad.
