2 weeks notice...

So I just found out today that my dad has a business trip to Houston and we may bring the whole family along to see Rice and everything... and I was wondering if 2 weeks notice is too quick to schedule and interview and/or overnight stay? Has anyone tried to schedule something like this so last minute?

Just call the admissions office and see what they have to say. I don't think you can schedule an overnight stay with a student since it's the middle of the summer (there are students on campus in one dorm, so you might try hanging around there if you want to ask some questions), but they do offer tours during the summer.

Ok, thanks!

There are some current Rice students on the Class of 2010 Forum staying on campus over the summer. I'm sure one would be happy to host you unofficially.

I knew JD would take this moment to advertise the board :p.

Hey Kathryn, my name's Emilia, and I'm a rising sophomore at Rice. This summer, I'm taking two classes (math 211 and anth 313, the latter being just for distribution) and working in a lab in the EEB department at Rice. I'm living on-campus at Baker, so I'd be willing and able to unofficially host you during the day and/or overnight if you want. Let me know if you're interested.

Rice gives tours during the summer to anyone who shows up at least once a day. They give interviews during the summer by appointment, so I don't know if you could get an interview since you might be coming in two weeks. You could always call the department of admissions (sooner rather than later) to find out if they have room for an interview.

Emilia- Thanks! But, as it turns out I won't be in Houston as long as I origionally thought. My family and I will only be at Rice for a day. However, if something opens up I'll let you know! I think I'm a little too late to schedule an interview, but that's ok because my dad and I are planning on making another visit in the fall.

I will never fail you Emilia

OK, hope you have a fun visit when you come back in the fall! Good luck with the application process :).
