Got an email from her today:) Glad I checked my at home email from work!

Sounds like she is very excited to start classes. Her cousin and 3 of his buddies visited her last night. She says she is going to try to go visit them tonight and figure out how to be "under the radar". She was told there is no fraternization between upper classmen and plebe candidates, but her cousin says "tuff!!" I said if people don't know they are cousins (they have different last names) they'll think they have something going on!! Hope she's careful. He has no sisters and she has no brothers, so they are like brother-sister (only they get along better! )

Hope all the rest of you are starting to hear more from your plebe candidates!!

Our son hasn't e mailed yet. I think I will try to e mail him after this.

Our son is a dinghy racer too so he will become good friends with both of your daughters I am certain as the race team forms bonds in kids. He also is in company one

Have either of your daughters raced before?

It makes me teary eyed listening to both of you talk about your daughters, you must be very proud.

Good stuff you guys! So glad they are doing well. KP10, no worries, or try not to anyhow. I know last year due to the computers being ordered in bulk, some of them didn't work properly or the kids who got them later/next day had to get them all set up. I'd shoot that email off so it will be there when he gets on! :) He'll be there soon, I just know it. And all I can say is sail away kids!! GO KP BEAT CG!! Shhh. Don't tell Boss.

Not to worry KP10, I'm sure you'll hear very soon, if you haven't already. My daughter did say that they were having internet/network problems all day yesterday. BTW-yes, I'm incredibly proud of my "little" girl, and I do mean little. She barely breaks 100 lb. which I'm sure is why she was asked to sail dinghys...she has no sailing experience! BTW-her big brother goes to that other Navy school and he's as proud as can be too!

One hundred pounds, she will be a very versatile sailor. And while she will do great on dinghys, light weight adults can usually get on any big boat they wish as crew also.

I hope she enjoys the sailing as much as mine does, sailing has become somewhat of a constant in his life since he was very little. It is the driving force behind his love and comittment to a career on the water.

juliemrn~ I'd love to be at your house come this Christmas holiday! LOL Having two kids in academies! WOW! They'll be comparing notes with each other. Congrats to both your kids & to you too! Do you were a Go Navy t-shirt on Tuesdays & Thursdays then a KP t-shirt on Mondays & Fridays? LOL I would! That is so great.

KP10 mom - is your son Joe or Russell? I met them at the BBQ. My daughter had been chatting with Joe online before they reported. I know he's had lots of experience and he has already offered to help her out since she's had none with dingy's (our sailboat is larger and Dad sails with her).

Got 3 emails from her yesterday, but then the one her dad sent her came back underliverable, but the one I sent before him went through fine. She did say she wasn't sure the computers were going to keep working okay. So I guess we'll all hear from them as they get the bugs worked out.

Does anyone know if they are going to post the pictures from the rest of indoc? I know they were still taking pictures Sunday (my sister was there for church). They haven't yet posted Friday, Sat or Sun. so was wondering. We have really been enjoying the pictures. We'll have to take those photographers some kind of treat when we go to Parents Weekend.

Yes she is. She said one roommate is from Huntington LI and the other is from NYC I think. Are one of those your daughter? She said in her email yesterday that there are only 7 girls left in 1st Company. One went home last week. She said her friend from Maryland has no roommate still and they are planning to bring in a girl from 4th company (transfer?) to room with her. Kate was hoping to be the one moved, since she really likes the girl and she's used to her own room. I'm sure living with 2 roommates is already driving her nuts. She's just a little fussy! I'm just glad there are 6 other girls in her company. She gets along with boys fine (some of her best friends from HS are guys), but it must be nice to have a few other girls around for support. It's great to have a couple of other mothers on here with girls at the academy.

Jamzmom....my son at Navy has been my daughter's biggest cheerleader! And he was so helpful when we dropped her off at O'Hara Hall, he just kept telling me that she was ready and would do fine. Because of his summer schedule he had to choose whether to be home for her graduation or her report day. He asked her which she would prefer and there was no contest, she wanted him there for her report day. It has been wonderful to have him home this past month to keep all of our spirits up and he has written her several times. It's funny, but he always wanted to go to Navy, and she never wanted to go there. She never showed an interest in any of the service academies until she heard about MMA, then she went after her appointment full speed ahead. She never even applied to any of the other academies and she was spot on...she's doing great and in the letter today, written last Friday before Indoc was over, she said that she's happy! Go figure! So when I'm in Annapolis it's a Go Navy shirt and in Great Neck is Go Mariners! Thank goodness there's still one at home for me to spoil rotten. A mom's gotta do what a mom's gotta do! ;-)

hey beachmom you sound like my mom!!! HEY MOM!!! Kate is not my roommate...my roomates are carter and greene. The one girl that left during INDOC left about a week into it...she couldnt handle it. i think 1st co has the best group of girls. we all get along pretty well.

I am new to the site and thought I would say hi to the group and toss in an observation. I am a retired Navy Officer who always knew of the excellent officers produced by KP. I am now an NJROTC instrcutor at a HS and I recommeded that one of my students apply to KP. This student received many offers, including an early appt. offer to USNA (fine school) which was turned down. I watched the INDOC process with the rest of the parents on the USMMA web site. Bravo Zulu to the fine group of senior mids who documented the hard days that the mids went through. I was very impressed and I feel that if this is the level of mids at KP, my recommedation to apply was well founded. I also found great value in this web site and have learned more about USMMA as the weeks went on. This will help me with other students in the future.

Yes you are correct!! I am your mother! And I am so very very proud of you!!! It is so neat to see you on the board today, I guess if I want to talk to you I better get used to this computer stuff.

Swim! You're back!!! Congrats on becoming a Plebe Candidate!! It is sooo good to see you on here. Your Mom is proud of you but don't forget about us too! We're beaming here! :) Good luck with classes. Don't you nod off in History of Sleep Power. I hear the guy pokes you with a pencil then tapes your eyes open. LOL

Beachmom, all I can do is say :) She's a keeper! She's one of our very best hopes of beating Coast Guard! GO KP!

PHSNSI, many welcomes & I'm glad you found this place. You made my evening by posting here in that a gentleman just like you, helped to set my son's path to KP. I'm a softy for NJ kids. Yelled at them a few times for grazing through my pantry & frig. My food bill has gone way down with them away & I haven't lost the tv remote once in a whole year. You guys do an awesome job with this program. Many thanks for what you do.

Joe is mine. Russell is his buddy from the SAME HIGH SCHOOL. It is so cool that they could come out together.

Joseph will be extremely helpful, he has an abundance of enthusiasm for sailing and by nature he has always been quick to help others out.

I had contacted the young man that was in charge of the pictures to ask him if there would be more. He said he was finishing up his sea project and intended to have more pictures on line by Tuesday. I suppose he got busy. I am hopeful to see more pictures too, that has been a real help in the letting go process.

PHSNHI, Kudos to you for becoming an NJROTC instructor. My son too was a "rot-c" kid. I can not tell you how important of a role his commander and his chief played in shaping him into the young man he is today. There are times when parents just don't seem to make an impact, and in those areas where I felt we couldn't, his instructors did. I will be forever grateful to them for their role in Joseph's life.

NJROTC was like an extended family to him. These kids that went into the program he was in got a special sense of belonging they could not find elsewhere on campus.

You will make a difference, a great one in so many kids lives!

Does anyone know the status of the photos for the last few days of Indoc? I heard that photos were taken but posting was delayed a bit because of a sea project deadline. With all the time and professionalism that went into pictorially capturing this experience, it would be great to see the final work product!

Will there be other photos online of significant events as the Academic Year progresses, such as Parents Weekend? What events can we look forward to seeing?
